About the role
The Mold Repairman (Toolmaker) plays a critical role in maintaining and restoring the functionality of molds used in manufacturing processes within the business services industry. This position focuses on diagnosing defects, performing precise repairs, and ensuring molds meet quality and performance standards to minimize downtime and production delays. The role requires a deep understanding of mold construction, materials, and tooling techniques to effectively troubleshoot and implement corrective actions. The Mold Repairman collaborates closely with production and engineering teams to optimize mold performance and extend the lifespan of tooling assets. Ultimately, this position ensures that molds operate efficiently, contributing to consistent product quality and operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Preparing dies based on the production plan - marking T or P on the entrance side of molds, and select high die efficiency molds.
- Perform and follow mold test, collect problem or sample, analyze and make the final decision for mold modification. After the die modification, polishing and assembling molds.
- Inspect and diagnose issues with molds, including wear, damage, and alignment problems.
- Perform detailed repairs and modifications on molds using hand tools, machine tools, and precision measuring instruments.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, modifications, and maintenance activities for each mold.
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to identify root causes of mold failures and recommend improvements.
- Ensure all repaired molds meet quality standards and specifications before returning them to production.
- Operate and maintain toolroom equipment such as grinders, lathes, milling machines, and welding equipment.
- Manage inventory of spare parts and tooling materials necessary for mold repair and maintenance.
- Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
To be a qualified candidate you must meet the following:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience as a mold repairman, toolmaker, or in a similar tooling maintenance role.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical CAD drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with precision measuring instruments.
- Ability to operate machine tools such as grinders, lathes, and milling machines safely and effectively.
Key to being successful in this role:
- Technical certification or vocational training in toolmaking, mold repair, or machining.
- Experience working with injection molds, die casting molds, or similar tooling in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with CNC machinery and programming.
- Knowledge of the aluminum extrusion process, aluminum die structure and modification principle
- Knowledge of Tig and Mig welding and use of different tools and measurement tools such as caliper, micrometer, right angle ruler
- Experience with quality control processes and standards such as ISO
- Physical requirements include the ability to perform medium to heavy tasks such as lifting, pushing, pulling on a frequent basis
