Under the general direction of the Gas Planning, Stations & GIS Section Head, will coordinate and/or perform the administration,
population, maintenance, storage, acceptance and dissemination of eGIS databases containing land base and gas distribution
assets. From this data will produce and maintain a wide variety of complex distribution related drawings. Most work is done using the
GE Smallworld Core and Design Manager software, AutoCAD, FME and ESRI. Will provide functional guidance to GIS personnel.
Responsibilities:
- Review, identify and update areas in the Geospatial land base system that require maintenance as it relates to the Dominion
Government land survey system (DGSS). GE Smallworld Core software to be utilized and updated for all GE Smallworld
platform users.
- Insert and georeference consultant drawings and/or other land base using FME or SOM tools for gas and electric design.
- Liaise with Gas/Electric engineering and construction staff, field staff, public utilities, and others, to obtain or supply pertinent
information on existing or proposed distribution plant to facilitate accurate drawing preparation and GIS distribution database
maintenance.
- Maintain accuracy of electric and gas distribution system data in the GE Smallworld Distribution databases.
- Gather geospatial, imagery and asset data to create data sets and maps.
- Create, edit and manipulate data sets in a GIS environment using GE Smallworld, FME and ESRI products.
- Assign work to technical staff and monitor work quality, quantity, accuracy and consistency.
- Perform conflict resolution and network integrity checks on gas and electric distribution assets.
- Train new GIS personnel in the use of GE Smallworld Core and Design Manager, AutoCAD, FME and in the knowledge of gas
distribution systems and land base information.
- Assist with finalizing as-builts of facility, pipeline and crossing drawings. Ensure drawings and GIS representation follows
Manitoba Hydro electric and gas drafting standards by working closely with Gas Engineering & Construction staff.
- Run specialized system applications/programs (Cathodic Section Traces, New Customer Service Tee).
- Identify and/or test GIS system fixes and enhancements.
- Respond to emergency mapping and information requests and special inquiries.
- Represent the Gas GIS Section on various related committees and working groups as required.
Qualifications:
- A two-year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology specializing in geomatics and geographic information systems from an
institute of recognized standing plus a minimum of three years of experience directly related to GIS management of
underground pipeline utilities. An advanced diploma in Geographic Information Systems Technology from an institute of
recognized standing would be an asset.
- Thorough understanding of coordinate and land registration systems including Dominion Government Survey Systems

- Demonstrated working knowledge of data creation, geoprocessing, databases and metadata maintenance.
- Demonstrated understanding of geographic datasets (shapefiles, raster and geodatabases), pipeline system terminology,
symbology, standards and equipment.
- Demonstrated ability of assembling cadastral and technical data to develop detailed and accurate asset/land base plans.
- Demonstrated specialized skills in using computers, associated support hardware and software specifically GE Smallworld
Core and Design Manager, AutoCAD, FME and ESRI ArcGIS Pro.
- Knowledge in the requirements and specifications of CSA, Canadian Transportation Agency, Railways, MTI and Manitoba
Hydro Distribution Standards.
- Demonstrated ability in interpersonal communication, work planning and coordination.
- Experience with Python or SQL coding is an asset
- Possess a valid Province of Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $34.80-$48.16 Hourly,
$66,691.04-$92,279.98 Annually.
