Summary of Duties:

• To provide patient assessment and care within the RPN scope of practice for patients undergoing orthopaedic surgery, that meets hospital and college of nurses standards.

• The RPN works collaboratively with the inter-professional team to provide person-centered care.

• Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Conducts patient health assessment in preparation for surgery and develops a care plan.

• Coordinates necessary investigations.

• Completes screening tools and documentation.

• Provides patient and family education.

• Communicates with other members of the team to coordinate care needs.

• Demonstrates commitment to quality improvement ongoing professional development and reflective practice.

• Provides physical assistance with patient transfers as needed.

Qualifications/Skills:

• Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario with no restrictions to practice as an RPN
• Current BCLS Certificate
• Health Assessment course essential
• 5 years current acute care orthopaedic surgical experience
• Previous Holland Bone and Joint Program experience an asset
• Strong assessment skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Proven leadership skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills in order to communicate effectively with patients, families and members of the inter-professional team
