We have an immediate opening for a full time, permanent, PURCHASING & PROCUREMENT SPECIALIST

POSITION SUMMARY:

The purchasing and procurement specialist's responsibilities include sourcing new suppliers, ensuring that the purchased products and materials meet specific technical specifications, negotiating purchase terms, and evaluating supplier performance. The purchasing specialist will also be responsible for ensuring timely deliveries and resolving any supply issues or discrepancies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Liaising with internal project teams to align purchasing strategies with overall business goals and maintaining strong supplier relations.
  • Evaluating products and suppliers according to key business criteria.
  • Identifying and evaluating potential suppliers to ensure they meet the company's quality and cost standards.
  • Preparing proposals, requesting quotes, and negotiating purchase terms and conditions.
  • Preparing and issuing purchase orders and agreements.
  • Monitoring supplier performance and resolving issues and concerns.
  • Inspecting and evaluating the quality of purchased items and resolving shortcomings.
  • Maintain tracking system to confirm orders are in accordance with planned schedule of completion.
  • Works with PMs on Open PO commitments to ensure they are updated and closed when work is complete
  • Assist with the finance reconciliations of capital expenditures.
  • Maintains SharePoint library of invoices and Purchase Orders for VPCON
  • Prepare reports about purchasing as required by Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
  • Performs back-up duties for the Accounts Payable Administrator when required.
  • Analyzing costs and seeking opportunities for savings through strategic sourcing and supplier negotiations.
  • Analyzing industry and demand trends and supporting senior management with the development and implementation of sourcing strategies.
  • Preparing reports and maintaining accurate inventory and procurement records.
  • Complying with company policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post secondary education in business administration, supply chain management, or similar field required.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a similar field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience as a purchasing specialist or in a similar role.
  • CPM or APICS certification preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of purchasing strategies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and with business application software, purchasing, and resource planning systems such as Yardi Voyageur.
  • Team player with strong organizational skills.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Be bondable and be prepared to execute a Bondability Affidavit.
  • Position is based at the Head Office located at 155 Queen Street North, Hamilton, with the possibility of a hybrid work options available.
  • Regular hours of employment are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday with some possibility of work required outside of regular hours.
  • Regular travel throughout service regions, may be required.
  • Considerable time in front of a computer screen, may be required.
  • Successful candidate will be subject to a satisfactory police background check.
