Position Summary:

We are currently recruiting a Machinist to join our team in Calgary, AB. The Machinist will play a key role in setting up and operating a short-order shop, using manually operated equipment to produce low-volume and custom components. This position will involve a wide range of machining operations and hands-on work with conventional machine tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate safe working practices in the machining, fabrication, and modification of components.
  • Assist in setting up and organizing a short-order machine shop, including equipment setup and workflow design.
  • Set up and operate a variety of manually operated machine tools (lathes, milling machines, grinders, drill presses, saws, etc.) to perform precision machining operations such as turning, milling, boring, drilling, and fitting.
  • Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders to machine components to required specifications.
  • Perform part setup, tooling adjustments, and maintenance of manual machines.
  • Act as a first line of resolution for machining and production problems.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements to support efficiency and productivity in a short-order environment.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized work area.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience as a Machinist working with conventional/manual machine tools.
  • Experience with low-volume, custom, or short-run machining environments is an asset.
  • Ability to translate the requirements of detailed part drawings into accurate machining operations.
  • Strong knowledge of materials, machining practices, and precision measuring techniques.
  • Ability to perform daily, weekly & monthly maintenance on equipment.
  • Critical thinking skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • You must be a resident of, or willing to relocate to, the Calgary, AB area.
