Job Description
Reporting to the Long Range Plan Department Supervisors and Managers, the successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual. You will play an integral part in Lake Louise Ski Resort’s commitment to its growth of sustainable recreation by supporting numerous projects and initiatives. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, excited to work on a wide variety of projects, have an excellent level of fitness, and enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Project Labour work includes, but is not limited to: hand digging, rock lining ditches, maintaining waterbars, carrying required project supplies to and from sites, working around machinery, landscaping, and general construction work. Team members will work alongside LRP Supervisors and contractors, as well as collaborate with staff from other LLSR Departments to achieve project-related goals. You may additionally be tasked to assist other LLSR Departments with their objectives, periodically.
Many of the tasks take place on steep slopes within the Lake Louise Ski Area and on its surrounding slopes. A strong level of fitness, in addition to confidence and enthusiasm for off-trail hiking, is recommended to all applicants for this position.
Job Responsibilities:
- Office work will be generally limited to morning vehicle checks and a safety tailgate meeting. The applicant should expect to work outdoors daily.
- Working on active and completed project sites on the mountain
- Provide manual labour to assist tradesmen and machine operators in a mountain construction environment
- Use of various hand tools (shovels, pick-axes, sledges, etc.) and power tools (drill/impact guns, reciprocating saws, grinders, etc.)
- Manual or vehicular transport of project materials to/from project sites on mountain roads using trucks, trailers, and OHVs (Side by Sides)
- Hand-digging and rock lining trenches and ditches
- Working in various construction settings, including with and around different types of machinery and equipment
- Installing ESC materials: silt fence, berms, geotextiles
- Site clean-up including construction waste or woody debris
- Monitoring and reporting presence of wildlife at LLSR construction sites and projects
- Documenting construction sites through different stages of construction progress
- Ensuring safe work sites. You must always wear necessary PPE and encourage safety culture within LLSR staff.
- Using GPS to mark LLSR infrastructure or other targets, as required
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
- A positive attitude, pleasant personality, good ethical and communication skills, combined with the ability and willingness to enforce policies and procedures in a professional manner as required
- Enjoy working outdoors daily in all-weather conditions
- Willingness to hike to remote work locations on a daily basis
- Self-motivated, must be capable of working with a team as well as independently with minimal supervision
- Physically fit; capable of lifting/carrying up to 50lbs
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s license (or international equivalent) with clean driving record and 3 years of claims-free insurance history (abstract/traffic history report must be provided before commencement of employment)
- Minimum high school graduation; post-secondary education and/or trades experience considered an asset
- Machine operating experience considered an asset
- Rigging experience considered an asset
- Truck and trailer or towing experience considered an asset
- Chainsaw training/experience considered an asset
- Comfort working with/on ladders considered an asset
- Valid First Aid certificate an asset
- Local knowledge of the area and/or resort, along with experience in outdoor environments is preferred
- Follow all LLSR policies and procedures
- Adhere to LLSR Grooming Policy at all times
- A police background check, from your home country or province, will be required upon commencement of employment
Work Schedule:
During the summer construction season you will be expected to work 4 x 10 hour days a week. Schedules may vary throughout your contract.
