Position Summary

The Refrigeration Mechanic is a member of the Park and Facility Services Team, responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the air conditioning, refrigeration, boilers and all HVAC equipment for the Calgary Stampede.

This position requires duties as an Operating Engineer to work on an on call rotating shift covering weekend Events and Boiler inspections.

This position involves maintaining and repairing equipment, adhering to accepted refrigeration handling practices and testing power generation equipment.

This position reports to Assistant Chief Engineer, Park and Facility Services.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Adhere to Calgary Stampede policies and procedures.
  • Repair and troubleshoot equipment problems and perform daily government required safety inspections.
  • Work on a rotating on call shift as an Operating Engineer.
  • Adhere to accepted refrigerant handling practices.
  • Maintain and update the equipment database.
  • Schedule equipment run times for events.
  • Test power generation equipment.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Perform utility meter readings (electrical, water and natural gas).
  • Upgrade training, as required.
  • Must complete DWOs in a timely manner.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be proactive, optimistic, a team player and have the ability to multitask, as well as the following:

  • Must be a certified Journeyman Refrigeration Mechanic or a motivated apprentice in good standing.
  • Must possess a minimum 5th Class Power Engineering Certificate. (Or be willing to take online courses to get one, within an agreed upon time frame).
  • Exceptional customer service, communication, and time management skills.
  • General knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) and database applications.
  • High attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Adequate visual acuity, color vision and sense of smell are required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Occasional lifting to a maximum of 50 lbs.
  • Pushing, pulling, crouching, bending, kneeling and reaching frequently.
  • Daily stair climbing.
  • Exposure to dust, fumes, gas, odors, animal dander, bedding waste and variability of seasonal climate.
