The Program:

Track: Young People’s Lodge provides treatment for adolescents with serious emotional and/or behavioural difficulties who are not yet able to be effectively served in the community. An emphasis is placed on connection to family and natural supports, community participation, and skill development . Treatment at Track: Young People’s Lodge is informed by the Neurosequential Model (NM), an evidence-based framework for understanding the impact of trauma on brain development, as well as Positive Behavior Supports (PBS), a multi-tiered framework for selecting and implementing developmentally appropriate and evidence-based socioemotional, cognitive, and behavioral interventions to decrease mental health and behavioral challenges and increase socioemotional and adaptive skills.

The Position:

We are looking for a full time Registered Psychologist/Registered Social Worker, based upon a 40-hour work week. Availability and preparedness to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the program when required including evenings and weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide assessment, treatment, clinical consultation, case management, education, and appropriate referrals.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate individual treatment plans in collaboration with the Program Director, client, family, and /or case team.
  • Complete appropriate assessments and all professional, clinical documents as per CARF standards, agency policies and procedures, assigned program practices, and regulating body requirements.
  • Ensure effective communication, operationalization, and follow-through of all treatment directives and research and training initiatives.
  • Liaise with families, case workers, program supports, and external professionals to inform clinical decision-making.
  • Certification in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics; conduct associated brain-map assessments to inform clinical decision-making and monitor progress.
  • Participate in other projects as assigned.
  • Availability to perform on call duties as part of a rotation with the leadership team
  • Provide both internal and external staff training, practicum student training, and clinical training as requested.
  • Attend all significant, clinical decision-making meetings as required.
  • Maintain a continuous learning mindset and participate in ongoing professional development activities.
  • Maintain continuing competence and registration requirements.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A Master’s degree from a relevant university program is required.
  • Eligibility for independent practice as a Registered Social Worker or Registered Psychologist. Provisional psychologists, or individuals working towards provisional status under CAP will be considered.
  • Certification in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics or willingness to complete certification.
  • Registered Social Worker or Registered Psychologist, or Registered Social Workers must be authorized to perform psychosocial interventions. All applicants are to be registered with a regulating body and maintain good standing under the Health Professions Act.
  • High professional and ethical standards, working in accordance with ethical codes adopted by relevant professions and endorsed by the Agency.
  • 2-3 years of direct clinical experience providing individual, group, and family counselling with children and youth who have complex mental health and behavioural challenges, including associated cognitive, behavioural, and developmental delays/disorders.
  • Clinical knowledge and experience facilitating milieu-based therapy, including principles and practices associated with trauma-informed care, behaviour change, and socioemotional skill development.
  • Foundational knowledge of developmental theories, including attachment theory, family systems theory, learning theories, and the impact of toxic stress on development.
  • Formal training in therapeutic modalities may include but is not limited to CBT/TF-CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Applied Behaviour Analysis, Family Therapies (Emotionally Focused Family Therapy, etc.), solution-focused therapy, EMDR, ART, etc.
  • Case management skills Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with multi-system and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Strong clinical assessment and report writing skills
  • Proven ability to facilitate group discussions and deliver effective training sessions.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, problem solving and decision-making skills, as well as cross cultural competence.
  • Excellent interpersonal qualities including flexibility, effective communication, positivity, and relationship building skills.
  • A strong work ethic and self-motivated.
  • Discretion, tact and ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Sound clinical judgment and ability to work professionally and independently.
  • Knowledge of multidisciplinary frameworks and scopes of practice, including Child and Youth Care Counselling.
  • Cross-cultural competence; knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the recommendations, goals and activities of the commission.
  • Clear Police Information Check (including Vulnerable Sector Check) and Intervention Record Check.
