Hiring Unit: School of Information Studies

Positions:

INFS 601 Foundations of Information Studies – Prof Dalkir – 1 position of 180 hours

INFS 607 Organization of Information – Prof TBA – 1 position of 180 hours

INFS 617 Information System Design – Prof TBA – 1 position of 180 hours

INFS 619 Information Behaviour and Resources – Prof Wilson – 1 position of 180 hours

INFS 680 Introduction to Information Security and Cryptography – Prof Ding – 90 hours

INFS 681 Modern Software Exploitation and Defence – Prof Ding – 90 hours

Position Summary:

  • Provide office hours for students
  • Assist in marking assignments and final examination
  • Assist in preparing class materials
  • Assist in class as needed; TA will have opportunity to teach a class during the term
  • Monitor online class discussions
  • Maintain course site on myCourses

Qualifications for INFS 601 Foundations of Information Studies

  • Ideally registered as a doctoral student at SIS
  • Graduate degree in information studies or related fields
  • Knowledge of the field of Information Studies and the subfields of Data Science, User Experience and Knowledge Management

Qualifications for INFS 607 Organization of Information

  • Ideally registered as a doctoral student at SIS
  • Completed a MISt degree, or related graduate degree
  • Has taken 607 (Organization of Information) or an equivalent course (MISt degree level)
  • Excellent knowledge of the principles of information representation, tools for information access, metadata, and controlled vocabularies
  • Knowledge of cataloging rules, library classification systems like LC subject headings and DDC, archival description, databases, and other information organization systems, processes, and professions

Qualifications for INFS 617 Information Systems Design

  • Ideally currently registered as a doctoral student at SIS
  • Completed a MISt degree, or related graduate degree
  • Has taken Information Systems or an equivalent graduate course (MISt level)
  • Knowledge of information systems and programming concepts
  • Knowledge of relational database design

Qualifications for INFS 619 Information Behaviour and Resources

  • Ideally currently registered as a doctoral student at SIS
  • Completed a MISt degree, or related graduate degree
  • Has taken 619 (Information Behaviour and Resources) or an equivalent course (MISt degree level)
  • Proficiency with online databases and information search systems

Qualifications for INFS 680 Introduction to Information Security and Cryptography

  • Strong knowledge of systems security
  • Relevant work or research experience in cybersecurity
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Passion to be a good teacher
  • Contract dates are different: Aug 31 to Oct 30, 2026
  • Position Summary is different: Assist instructor to teach an 8-week online course in cybersecurity. Help students solve technical problems. Develop new course contents. Participate in online discussions. Answer students’ questions. Guide students to complete assignments and projects. Grading.

Qualifications for INFS 681 Modern Software Exploitation and Defence

  • Strong knowledge of software security and malware analysis
  • Relevant work or research experience in cybersecurity
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Passion to be a good teacher
  • Contract dates are different: Oct 27 to Dec 24, 2026
  • Position Summary is different: Assist instructor to teach an 8-week online course in cybersecurity. Help students solve technical problems. Develop new course contents. Participate in online discussions. Answer students’ questions. Guide students to complete assignments and projects. Grading.

Hourly Salary: $38.46

Total Hours of Work per Term: 180 or 90

Position Start Date: 31 August 2026 (except for INFS 680 and 681, see above)

Position End Date: 5 January 2027 (except for INFS 680 and 681, see above)
