RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position summary
We are seeking a dedicated Lab Technician to support our research operations. This role is essential for maintaining exceptional animal care standards and providing critical laboratory assistance, ensuring the success of our scientific investigations and therapeutic innovation.

General Duties

Animal Care & Management:

  • Perform mouse colony maintenance, including animal handling, identification, and basic sample collection.
  • Conduct genomic sample processing, genotyping, and maintain comprehensive genotype documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of animal care, treatments, and observations,
  • Ensure strict compliance with IACUC protocols and RI-MUHC policies.

Laboratory Techniques:

  • Perform routine laboratory procedures including cell culture, sample processing, and specimen preparation.
  • Conduct molecular biology techniques such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA/RNA extraction, and protein assays.
  • Perform precision cryostat sectioning of tissue samples to produce high-quality sections for histological analysis.

Collaborative Support:

  • Assist with experimental procedures under researcher supervision.
  • Support ongoing research projects and contribute to laboratory operations.

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in life science related field or equivalent

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated comfort and competence in handling laboratory rodents
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to perform delicate manual procedures with accuracy and precision
  • Self-motivated individual who finds satisfaction in detailed technical work
  • Proven ability to complete tasks thoroughly from start to finish with minimal supervision
  • 1 year experience of laboratory animal husbandry practices
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Familiarity with IACUC protocols and regulatory compliance

Additional information

Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)

Pay Scale: $41,550.60 - $62,353.20/year. Commensurate with education and experience

Work Shift: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm

Work Site: GLEN Site, 1001 boul. Decarie
