Unit Manager, Continuing Care
About the role
The Unit Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the unit including direct supervision of staff. This role demonstrates role modeling of COV’s Mission, Vision and Values in daily interactions with staff/ patients/ residents/families. The position facilitates and fosters interdisciplinary participation in patient care activities and coaches, mentors, motivates and empowers clinical staff. The Unit Manager creates a climate of interdepartmental respect and collaboration, and administers the applicable Collective Agreements for areas of responsibility. The responsibilities of this position are focused around four critical aspects of care and service: People and teams. Access and flow. Quality and safety. Efficiency and resources. The Manager, In conjunction with CNE (and program manager as needed), addresses learning needs of staff, Monitors staff development and holds frequent development discussions; Is responsible for hiring unit/department staff while considering every vacancy as an opportunity for change in care delivery; Supports unit and/or organizational change by raising awareness through communication. To minimize negative outcomes, the Unit Manager must possess considerable clinical knowledge, skill level and leadership abilities relevant to the operating room of responsibility. The Manager must have knowledge related to protocols, standards and techniques for the department and patient/client population. Required Qualifications:
Graduate of a recognized Nursing program required. Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BScN) recommended. Minimum three (3) years recent nursing experience. Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory/management experience. Combination of education and experience may be considered. Current registration with professional regulatory body.
