About the role
Location: Remote, Canada Hours: On-demand, task-by-task basis with no guaranteed minimum hours per week Overview We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented graphic designer for on-demand freelance work supporting a multi-phase government innovation program. You will create visual assets across multiple formats — from competition branding and marketing materials to webinar decks and video graphics — as project phases progress. Work is assigned on a task-by-task basis as an independent contractor. Key Responsibilities Design competition branding including logos, color palettes, and visual identity for a multi-phase program Create hi-resolution challenge images and banner graphics (minimum 1045x320px) for web and promotional use Design marketing and outreach materials including social media graphics, email headers, press release visuals, and announcement graphics Produce presentation decks and visual aids for webinars and stakeholder briefings Design lower thirds, title cards, and motion graphic elements for highlight reel videos Maintain consistent branding and visual standards across all phases and materials Ensure all visual deliverables meet Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards Deliver assets in required formats (PNG, PDF, MP4-ready graphics) with fast turnaround Required Qualifications Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) or equivalent Strong portfolio demonstrating branding, marketing materials, and presentation design Knowledge of Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards for visual content Ability to follow brand guidelines and deliver pixel-perfect, print and web-ready files Reliable turnaround on short timelines with clear communication Ability to produce AI-free original artwork — generative AI is not permitted for deliverables Preferred Qualifications Experience designing for government, research, or professional services programs Experience with motion graphics or basic video title/lower third design (After Effects or Canva Pro) Familiarity with designing for innovation competitions, science programs, or federal agencies Experience creating accessible color-contrast compliant designs Work Location & Requirements Must be based in Canada and able to invoice as an independent contractor Fully remote position AI-generated images are strictly not permitted for any deliverable on this project; all work must be original human-created designs
