To meet our growth challenges, WSP’s Canadian team is currently seeking an Intermediate Transmission Line Engineer to join our Power Delivery team, located in our BC offices (Vancouver, Victoria, Nanaimo, Prince George, Kelowna or Kamloops).
WSP is a leader in the delivery of Power sector solutions to meet the increasing demand for safe, secure, and sustainable energy for Canadians which requires a substantial refresh and expansion of the electricity network. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise and consulting experience in T&D projects – specific to transmission lines. The projects include, but not limited to, greenfield and brownfield projects, high-voltage utility systems and renewable energy interconnection projects. This role involves close collaboration with clients and stakeholders to understand their engineering needs, ensuring successful project coordination, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. We work with both public and private sector clients on innovative projects, providing opportunities for our team members to showcase their expertise and mentor the next generation of passionate professionals. In this role, you will help bring WSP’s vast expertise, experience, and innovation to support our clients, utilities, and communities in the transformation to a new energy future.

What you can expect to do here:
- Lead or support initial project execution and layout for efficient planning
- Perform engineering and design for transmission line projects ranging from 69kV to 500kV
- Prepare and review design deliverables, such as plan and profile drawings, material selection, and construction specifications
- Maintain project schedule and budget
- Conduct project meetings and communicate deliverables
- Coordinate with clients and support project meetings
- Ensure workflow and communication across multidisciplinary teams
- Facilitate QA/QC procedures and reviews
- Prepare project status reports and updates
- Build and maintain client relationships
- Support resource planning for current and future projects
- Contribute to business improvement and planning initiatives You will guide and mentor junior engineers.
What you’ll bring to WSP:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering. Other engineering disciplines may be considered;
- Registration as a P.Eng in your province of residence;
- Minimum of 5+ years experience in transmission design – design of overhead High Voltage and Extra High Voltage transmission lines including route selection, line and structure spotting, structure design and analysis, and development of construction bid package
- Hands-on work experience using PLS-CADD, POLE, TOWER and FAD Tools software packages
- Electric utility industry experience and design experience up to 500kV
- Transmission line routing
- Familiarity with Transmission structure foundation design, and structure load and design
- Cost estimating and scheduling
- Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment;
- Strong knowledge of electrical distribution and transmission systems, with a deep understanding of industry standards and regulations;
- Familiarity with relevant safety standards, utility codes, and regulatory requirements;
- Excellent communication, presentation, organizational and writing skills a must as candidates will be responsible for client interface and the preparation of project design documents including technical design, plan & profile, (structure spotting), staking sheets, contracts and specifications;
- Willingness to travel as needed for project assessments, meetings and on-site support.
Compensation
Salary range (in British Columbia): $91,200- $125,400
The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. The salary range provided in this job posting may be subject to change for business purposes.
