About the role

Overview:

The successful candidates would be self-motivated, possess strong learning agility and a passion to pursue a meat cutter career. The candidate will contribute to the profitability of the meat department through effectively maintaining consistent merchandising standards, quality product and above all, an exceptional service to our customers. Once this program is successfully completed, candidates will be placed in a Metro location as a FT Meat Cutter.

The program consists of 400 training hours (4-6 months depending on your progress) and consists of the following:

  • On-the-job paid training and benefits after probationary period.
  • Competitive wage upon completion and room for advancement within the Company.
  • Training at several Metro locations by experienced and qualified meat cutters.
  • Feedback provided on personal progress via assessments.
  • Corporate Program. Applicants selected based on skill, ability, competence, knowledge, adaptivity, availability and demonstrated willingness to learn.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To receive, cut and prepare beef, veal, lamb, bulk/tray pack chicken and processed meats while ensuring the quality of meat and cuts comply with Company standards.
  • To prepare meat on trays according to specifications in preparation for wrapping.
  • To ensure that safety and sanitation of the department meet Company protocols and standards.
  • To serve customers in an efficient and friendly manner and respond to any customer inquiries, requests, and complaints.
  • Travel may be required.
  • To perform other duties as assigned.

The Ideal Candidate Would Posses:

  • Exceptional customer service skills while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team player.
  • High regard for Health and Safety and for overall cleanliness.
  • Strong Initiative and interpersonal skills.
  • Food safety training and previous relevant experience would be an asset.
  • Physical manual labour required, heavy lifting, working in a cold environment and able to stand of an extended period.
  • Be familiar with and complies our Company Health and Safety Policies.
  • Must be flexible to work a combination of shifts including, days, weekends, evenings and holidays.
