Job Description The Pet Valu family of stores includes Pet Valu, Paulmac's Pet Food, Bosley's, Tisol and Total Pet and together we are one of the largest retail operations in North America dedicated to providing families with food and supplies for dogs, cats, companion birds, wild birds, fish, reptiles and small animals.
All of our stores are dedicated to helping local pets in need, and we partner with local shelters, rescues and charities for adoption events, in-store adoption (select stores only) and pet food bank programs, as well as through our national donation drives and fundraising campaigns.

Job Overview The Assistant Manager will be supporting the Store Manager and Franchisees in different facets of operations and be able to provide assistance to full-time and part-time staff while being hands-on themselves. Outstanding customer service is a top priority. We love to hear positive customer feedback.
Details Should be available for any hours that the store is open, 40 hours/week; shifts will include a combination of evenings(2-3), days & some weekend shifts so flexible availability is required.
Prerequisites
- should have a love of animals.
- must be friendly, outgoing and enjoy dealing with the public.
- must be able to handle ongoing heavy lifting(up to 50 lbs) including carryouts during the shift.
- must be willing to learn & upgrade product knowledge on an ongoing basis including completion of online learning courses.
Duties Include
- putting away stock from deliveries when scheduled for delivery day, re-stocking shelves from overstock to keep the stockroom clear & shelves full. This involves some strenuous physical work. Early morning scheduling is sometimes involved to assist in deliveries.
- cash register operation & associated paperwork.
- proper rotation of date & label sensitive products and tracking out of date products is a must.
- making sure correct sale signage is in place for promotional activity.
- maintaining store appearance, keeping it clean and organized, includes proper care of any animals in the store.
