About the Project
Red Chris is a gold and copper mine located in the Tahltan Territory, northern British Columbia. The mine has been in operation since 2015 and has been operated by Newmont since 2023. It is now transitioning from open pit to underground block caving—an innovative method that extends mine life while reducing environmental impact. This transition will create new, technically advanced roles and opportunities to work alongside global experts. We are committed to partnering with the Tahltan Nation and local communities, ensuring the project delivers long-term social, environmental, and economic benefits.
Your Impact
As an Engineer, Geotechnical in Training, you will play an important role in supporting safe, efficient, and sustainable underground development. You’ll work closely with experienced geotechnical engineers to collect and analyze data, monitor ground conditions, and help implement strategies that ensure the stability and integrity of underground excavations.
Your work will directly support mine design, ground control, and risk management processes that shape the success of the Red Chris Block Cave Project. This role offers a unique opportunity to build technical expertise in geotechnical engineering while gaining hands-on experience in one of the most complex and rewarding mining environments in the world.
As a Part of Our Team, You Will
- Assist with the implementation of the Ground Control Management Plan and support compliance with geotechnical design requirements.
- Conduct field and underground inspections, assess ground conditions, and contribute to daily geotechnical reports.
- Support data collection, QA/QC activities, and maintenance of monitoring systems for seismicity, cave growth, and ground convergence.
- Help identify, report, and follow up on geotechnical hazards in collaboration with operations.
- Participate in cross-functional discussions to integrate geotechnical input into mine planning and scheduling.
- Learn directly from engineers and technical experts, expanding your practical skills and understanding of underground mining operations.
- Contribute to fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Requirements for Success in This Role
- Prior geotechnical engineering experience; underground exposure preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining, Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering (or equivalent).
- Exposure to geotechnical data collection and field programs, including drilling and sampling.
- Working knowledge of ground control principles, rock mass characterization/classification, QA/QC practices, and underground mining methods.
- Ability to register as an Engineer-In-Training in British Columbia
- Valid manual driver’s license preferred

You will be based at the Red Chris Block Cave Project, working in a high-altitude underground mining setting. The role calls for adaptability, resilience, and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and collaborative workplace within a dynamic project environment.
This is a fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) position, operating on a 2-week on / 2-week off rotation. While on site, you’ll enjoy comfortable accommodations designed to support your wellbeing, including balanced meals prepared by our culinary team, access to TV and Wi-Fi, a fully equipped on-site gym, and a range of recreational activities.

The expected salary range for this role is CA$CAD 97,920 - CAD 128,520 . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.
