Scope (Purpose)

We are seeking a part-time Project Manager (20 hours/week) to lead and facilitate joint projects for our national and international Members within the Fuel Channels Program under Joint Projects & Services. These initiatives are critical to advancing clean energy solutions, extending the life of CANDU® nuclear reactors, and complying with regulatory obligations. In this role, you will engage key stakeholders, foster collaboration among CANDU® owners, and manage projects to ensure a successful completion. Reporting to the Program Manager, Fuel Channels, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of nuclear energy and sustainability.

Key Accountabilities

  • Take ownership for facilitating assigned joint nuclear projects related to CANDU® technology. Responsible for the planning, execution, and closeout of assigned projects within established budget and schedule.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Members by facilitating and assisting project steering committee in mitigating risks, managing issues and identifying opportunities within assigned projects.

General Responsibilities

  • Initiate, co-ordinate and manage multiple joint projects simultaneously to achieve the defined objectives of scope, quality, schedule and cost.
  • Plan, organize and facilitate project meetings under the direction of the steering committee.
  • Facilitate project vendor selection process including preparing of request for proposals, conducting bid review and negotiating commercial terms & conditions with support from project participants and Conexus Business Services team.
  • Apply Project Management methodology to coordinate the efforts of suppliers and steering committee to deliver projects according to plan.
  • Engage with suppliers and steering committee to monitor scope, cost, schedule, risk, quality etc.
  • Administer contracts and change control processes in accordance with Conexus policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate the deliverable review and approval process.
  • Review and approve project payments in conjunction with the Program Manager.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in the project management process.
  • Evaluate project and lessons learned via post-project review and close-out processes.
  • Performing other duties as required.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Post-secondary education in relevant Engineering or Science program, with mechanical, electrical and/or a specialization in nuclear engineering preferred.
  • Project management certification such as Project Management Professional (PMP) or an equivalent.
  • At least 5 years' experience as a Project Lead or Project Manager in the nuclear with at least 3 years in managing small to medium projects (ranging in the $150K to $550K) of medium to high complexity with a project team.
  • This role requires the ability to manage multiple projects and their associated competing priorities while delivering results to the stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of the principles of the CANDU nuclear power plant design and operation.
  • Knowledge and/or experience related to CANDU licensing basis, major components design/operation (fuel channels, specifically), and fuel channel surveillance activities as required by CSA N285.4 is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of CANDU nuclear industry-utilities, suppliers and organizations.
  • General understanding of the principles of Quality Management Systems, Quality Assurance, Canadian and International Standards and Codes related to the design and procurement of nuclear components and systems (i.e. CSA N299, N286, N286.7 Standards and ASME NQA-1, ASME BPV Code Section III: Subsection NCA).
  • Previous experience with MS SharePoint, Project, or Access and/or other enterprise project management software. MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams) proficiency.

  • Infrastructure & Systems Administration: Proficient in supporting, monitoring, and maintaining IT infrastructure, including workstations, virtual environments, servers, and data center equipment. Applies best practices in system updates, patch management, and cybersecurity protocols.

  • End-User Support & Customer Service: Provides responsive and effective first- and second-level technical support, ensuring high user satisfaction. Able to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users and deliver informal training when needed.

  • Cybersecurity Awareness & Risk Mitigation: Understands cybersecurity fundamentals and assists with incident response, vulnerability management, and maintaining secure environments. Applies security updates and follows established IT security policies and procedures.

  • IT Asset & Lifecycle Management: Manages the full lifecycle of hardware and software assets – from procurement and configuration to deployment, tracking, and decommissioning. Maintains accurate inventory and ensures compliance with organizational standards.

  • Collaboration & Communication: Works effectively across departments and with external stakeholders (members, suppliers). Communicates clearly, demonstrates respect and trust, and supports a team-based approach to achieving IT and organizational goals.

  • Clear Project Scope & Governance: Project scope, terms, and conditions are well-defined and agreed upon by all members, ensuring smooth execution and compliance with governance standards.
  • Strong Stakeholder Engagement & Satisfaction: Members are actively engaged in project collaboration, with positive feedback on the effectiveness of projects undertaken.
  • Cost Efficiency & Value Creation: Shared projects result in cost savings for members, maximizing the value derived from joint initiatives.
  • Proactive Opportunity Identification: New project management opportunities are consistently identified and pursued, fostering collaboration and innovation among the team.
