About the Role:
Join the Uwill team to support student mental health in Canada. Be part of a growing movement that prioritizes access, flexibility, and student choice and eliminates barriers for students to receive the mental health support they need. As a Uwill Counsellor, you will be offering teletherapy sessions by video, phone, or chat to students at our partner institutions.
This is a contractor (self-employed) role with flexible scheduling.
Essential Job Functions:
- Manage an on-going caseload of clients from initial session to graduation from care.
- Conduct video, telephone, or chat sessions with students.
- Apply evidence-based modalities and SMART goals, tailored to student needs.
- Deliver culturally competent care for a diverse student population including but not limited to: first-time therapy seekers, Indigenous students, racialized students, gender diverse students, first-generation students, lived experience in rural communities, and athletes.
- Adhere to the risk assessment and management process of Uwill, including assessing for risk during the initial session with a student and as needed thereafter.
- Complete session notes within time frame expectations.
- Respond to student messages in a timely manner.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
- Registration in good standing as a

- Registered Clinical Social Worker (RCSW) with the Alberta College of Social Workers, or
- Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists.
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
- 2 years of experience providing therapy in a telehealth setting using a variety of modalities.
- Professional liability insurance valid in Alberta, Canada.
- Access to a private, professional space that complies with Canadian privacy laws (e.g., PIPEDA, HIA).
- Ability to provide sessions via Zoom on a computer or laptop that has a camera and microphone and strong WiFi connection capable of supporting video sessions.
Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal, and listening communication skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, critical-thinking skills, use of sound judgment.
- Proven ability to relate effectively to a wide variety of people of various ages and backgrounds, student developmental needs, nationality, culture, faith/religion, language difference, ability differences, sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression.
- Possess the ability to work with a wide range of individuals presenting mental health concerns across broad levels of acuity including first-time therapy seekers.
- Ability to assess risk and refer to Uwill’s Clinical Support team as needed.
- Ability to respond with empathy, professionalism, and meet students where they are.
