The hourly rate for this role is $48.05 per hour. Hourly rates are determined during our interview process, by assessing a candidate’s experience, skills against internal peers and against the scope and responsibilities of the position.

Position Summary In this hands-on maintenance position, the successful candidate will apply their technical abilities to maintain equipment across a wide variety of manufacturing and production assets. The successful candidate will be expected to complete machine repairs, preventative maintenance (PM) and predictive maintenance (PdM). As a member of the maintenance team, you will be expected to work safely in a team environment, which includes being self-motivated, accepting responsibilities, completing assigned action items, and participating in a proactive manner in all team events as well as making daily contributions towards our vision of zero unplanned downtime, practicing safe working habits and becoming a world class maintenance (WCM) operation.

Key Responsibilities The Machinist is responsible for a variety of tasks which ensure the efficiency and reliability of all Company equipment and processes including:

Safety Requirements

  • Apply lock out tag out (LOTO) and deenergizing procedures
  • Maintain a safe, clean and orderly work environment as per the departments 5’s policy
  • Practice safe work habits in accordance with HWSL policies and best practices for safety and housekeeping standards
  • Ability to perform tasks according to Standard Operating Procedures
  • Always wear all required PPE and clothing
  • Apply fire-prevention techniques and work under safety permits where required

Predictive (PdM) and Preventative Maintenance (PM)

  • Produce high quality outcomes from executing preventative maintenance (PM) and predictive maintenance (PdM) programs
  • Contribute and drive improvements to PdM and PM programs
  • Effectively use Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) programs – JDE/CAM/E1
  • Complete vibration and ultrasonic testing
  • Complete oil sampling

Machining And Fabrication Requirements

  • Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and standard operating procedures
  • Set up and operate conventional metal-cutting machines and equipment, including saws, drills, grinders, lathes, and mills
  • Perform measuring or checking of work using specialized and precision tools and equipment
  • Use machine tools such as lathes and milling machines and fabrication tools such breaks, presses, power threaders and punches
  • Use precision tools such as laser alignment equipment, dial indicators, micrometers and precision and optical levels
  • Perform bench operations such as drilling, tapping, grinding, etc.

Installing, Servicing And Maintaining Equipment Requirements

  • Install, repair, and relocate machinery as required, including material handling systems, power transmission systems, fluid power systems, and rotary equipment
  • Install, repair, and relocate pumps – including rebuilding key components: bearings, seals, etc.
  • Size and determine proper fits of keys, shafts, bearings, using precision tools as required
  • Utilize and understand reports, technical information, and manufacturers’ manuals
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and identify root causes for mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Disassemble, reassemble, and test complex machinery and sub-assemblies
  • Use hand and power tools, machine tools, precision measuring equipment, proper materials, and fasteners, apply lubricant, rig, and hoist
  • Executing break-fix (reactive) work orders in addition to planned work

General

  • Other related duties as required

  • Effectively communicate and lead fellow coworkers and/or contractors in the work required to install, service and maintain equipment

  • Respectfully communicate and collaborate with fellow coworkers, contractors, other trades groups, management, company representatives or government officials (inspectors)

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize with minimal supervision

  • Ability to work with computers, tablets and other technologies for documentation purposes

  • Demonstrated ability to perform effectively under conditions of frequent interruptions and/or distractions

  • Continuous learning mindset

  • Think analytically and solve problems and/or troubleshoot

  • Proven ability to lead co-workers and contractors

  • Willingness to report to work for emergency call-ins with no prior notice

  • Willingness to work in a variety of work environments (i.e., cold, hot/humid, wet, dirty, etc.)

  • Willingness to work shift work and overtime on afternoon, night, and weekend shifts

  • Ability to satisfy both the known and unknown requirements of key customers of the maintenance group

  • Desire to exceed the customer’s expectations

  • Strong written/oral comprehension and communication skills

  • Must have the physical capabilities to:

  • Be able to lift 50 lbs

  • Must be able to walk/stand for entire shift

  • Must be able to stoop

  • Must be able to occasionally work in cramped or uncomfortable positions (i.e., confined spaces)

  • Must be able to use hands at competitive speeds with regards to dexterity fingering and handling

  • Must be able to climb ladders

  • A valid Ontario “G” Drivers License

Education & Experience Fully qualified as a Journeyperson Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A) or Journeyperson General Machinist (429A) recognized by and in good standing with the Ontario College of Trades. The successful applicant will have related work experience as an Industrial Mechanic Millwright or General Machinist within the last 5 years.
