This professional engineering position is part of the Infrastructure Planning Division and is focused on the planning and management of the City’s water and sewer utility infrastructure. The role includes managing studies that support capital projects and programs that align with the City’s strategic objectives.

Responsibilities include preparing detailed scopes of work, evaluating submissions, awarding projects, and working closely with consultants to ensure deliverables meet the City’s standards and needs. A key aspect of the role is reviewing and accepting engineering analysis and design work performed by consultants to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with City standards. The engineer will also be responsible for preparing and presenting reports and recommendations to senior staff. This position requires collaboration with consultants, City operations staff, external agencies, and members of the public, fostering effective relationships and providing clear technical guidance. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications

Qualifications include a university degree in Engineering and eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or senior Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.), along with 3–5 years of experience in Municipal infrastructure design or construction (municipal infrastructure or utility planning preferred), or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience in project management and contract administration is essential. Proficiency with GIS, InfoWater Pro, InfoWorks ICM, and SAP is preferred. Strong communication skills and the ability to build productive relationships across all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders are assets. A valid British Columbia Driver’s Licence is required.
