Position Overview
FMPSD invites dynamic, student-centered leaders to apply for the position ofPrincipal of École McTavish High School. We seek an experienced educator who is deeply committed to building positive school culture, leading instructional excellence, and working collaboratively with students, staff, families, and the community.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong alignment with the**Alberta Leadership Quality Standard (LQS)**and will be responsible for fostering a learning environment that supports both academic achievement and student well-being.

École McTavish High School is a large grade 7 - 12 school that serves over 1800 students. It is well known for its academics, athletics, and performing and visual arts programming and truly offers pathways to success for all students. Beyond the classroom, students are encouraged to grow as leaders through a strong sense of community and diverse extracurriculars like the Marauders athletic teams and a vibrant musical theatre program. Key Responsibilities
- Provide visionary and instructional leadership aligned with FMPSD's mission and the Alberta LQS.
- Cultivate a safe, inclusive, and welcoming school environment focused on equity, diversity, and student success.
- Lead and support collaborative professional learning communities and staff development.
- Promote high-quality teaching and assessment practices grounded in current educational research.
- Foster strong relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners.
- Use data and evidence-based practices to guide school improvement planning and decision-making.
- Ensure effective school operations and management of human and financial resources.
- Advocate for and support the mental health and well-being of students and staff.
- Uphold the ethical and legal responsibilities of school leadership.
Qualifications and Experience
Required:
- Alberta Teaching Certificate in good standing.
- Master's degree in Education or related field (or in progress).
- Successful teaching experience, preferably at the junior and senior high level.
- Minimum three years of school leadership experience (Vice-Principal, Principal, or similar).
- Deep understanding of the Alberta curriculum, inclusive education, and assessment practices.
- Demonstrated commitment to leading equitable and inclusive learning environments.
Assets:
- Knowledge of Indigenous perspectives and commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.
- Experience in diverse school communities.
- Proficiency in supporting literacy and numeracy development at the elementary level.
- Experience using technology to support learning, collaboration, and communication.
- Familiarity with social-emotional learning and trauma-informed practices.
- Familiarity with Restorative Practice.
