Stantec in Alberta has an opportunity for an Entry Level Commissioning Agent to join our established Western Canadian Commissioning Team.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Delivering Commissioning Services for valued clients and their projects throughout Alberta under the supervision, guidance and mentorship of our Senior Commissioning Leaders.
- Support the development of Cx plans and specifications.
- Attend Cx pre‑proposal meetings, Cx kick‑off meetings and additional meetings as required for designated Cx projects.
- Execute commissioning assignments encompassing both in‑office and on‑site activities and requirements.

- Support development and/or maintain documentation of Cx projects and milestone events ...
- Receive and review project as‑built drawings, O&M manuals, warranty manuals and commissioning reports.
- Analyze contracts, review plans, drawings, specifications, and submittals and verify commissioning schedules as required. Identify deficiencies and out‑of‑scope work requirements and initiate appropriate measures with assigned project manager to facilitate project completion.
- Maintain schedules, ensuring proper resources are allocated to each commissioning task.
- Audit all sites during commissioning to ensure desired scope, quality, and schedules are met.
- Support and participate in coordination and implementation of commissioning and performance testing processes and methodologies, and detailed capture and effective recording of these project details and findings.
- Reviews of design drawings and specifications and reporting to Clients with regard to whether proposed design satisfies the Owner’s project requirements.
- Support Commissioning team in active field reviews, testing, issue capture and issues resolution of mechanical, electrical and automation related technical services within facilities.
- Assist in development of detailed and concise reports and support documentation.
- Witness and document air and water balancing procedures and balancing results.
- Witness and document automation controls verifications and sensor calibrations.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Basic understanding and experience in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical building systems.
- Basic understanding and experience troubleshooting building automation / controls systems.
- Prior work experience directly related to Building Construction is preferred.
- Operations, Maintenance and Sustainability Technology experience an asset.
- General knowledge of LEED Guidelines and Workflows.
- Able to qualify for security clearance based on client requirements.
- Excellent computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, etc.)
- Basic experience in implementing project schedules (utilizing Microsoft Project, Prima Vera, etc.).
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing is required with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Must be self‑sufficient and self‑motivated with strong negotiation skill.
- Ability to Multi‑Task. Note that this position requires the successful candidate to work on multiple projects at once all at varying stages of design / construction. As well with today’s construction industry dates for project and system turnover are always changing and the ability to adapt to these schedule changes is a prime asset for this role.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or technical college degree in engineering, construction management or a related field. Mechanical or Electrical related tradesperson with startup experience.
- Eligibility and intent to pursue certification with APEGA, ASET, AEE, BCA, ASHRAE, NEBB, AABC or equivalents.
- Candidates with previous direct experience with Commissioning Programs and/or Performance Testing Fields as well as other Construction related experience is an asset.
- Valid 5 Class driver’s license is required.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
