About the role
About Xanadu:
Xanadu’s mission is to build quantum computers that are useful and available to people everywhere.
At Xanadu, we are learners, innovators, researchers, collaborators and problem solvers. We are creating something that has never been built before. What we are doing is extremely hard, the classic moon shot. Few people in their life will be able to be a part of something like this, where if we are successful, the technologies we develop will solve some of the world’s most challenging problems and literally change the world. And that is something to be excited about!
Your role and responsibilities:
As a member of the architecture team, the selected candidate will work on designing, simulating, and optimizing the physical/quantum optics layer of Xanadu’s photonic quantum computer. This can include investigating methods for preparing bosonic qubits and cluster states, developing new theory and numerical tools, studying physical sources of noise, and providing theory support for experimental demos.
Basic qualifications and experience:
- MSc or PhD in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Expertise in theoretical quantum optics and/or bosonic qubit theory.
- Demonstrated Python programming skills e.g. for research, coursework, or personal projects (include GitHub profile on CV if available).
- Demonstrated ability to employ numerical techniques for research problems.
- Demonstrated strong communication skills e.g. papers, posters, conference talks, teaching experience.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple competing priorities/deadlines.
Preferred qualifications and experience:
- PhD, postdoctoral or industry experience in quantum physics or technology
- Deep understanding of Gaussian quantum optics and/or continuous variable measurement-based quantum computing and/or tensor networks
- Experience working with experimentalists/hardware teams to design, simulate and analyze experiments
- Knowledge of software development best practices
- Excellent Python programming skills, demonstrated via a public online portfolio, and/or experience developing code in a team environment
- Experience as a project leader/owner/coordinator
- Experience with high-performance computing
About Xanadu
Xanadu Quantum Technologies Inc. is a Canadian quantum technology company, and one of the world's leading photonic quantum hardware providers.
Founded in 2016, Xanadu's mission is to build quantum computers that are useful and available to people everywhere. To achieve this mission, the company has taken a full-stack approach and builds hardware, software, and pursues state-of-the-art research with select partners.
The company is also advancing the field of quantum machine learning (QML) through the development of PennyLane, an open-source project that has become a leading software library among quantum researchers and developers.
Xanadu is bringing together exceptional minds from around the world to build something extraordinary.
