About the role
Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Manager, Marketing and Brand and supervised by the Assistant Manager, Communications & Digital Marketing, the Digital Content and Marketing Coordinator supports Carleton University’s Recreation & Athletics communications strategy by developing high-impact digital and print content that promotes varsity sport, student engagement, and university pride. The incumbent creates and manages multimedia content across digital platforms, oversees content contributor programs, executes targeted marketing campaigns, and collaborates with staff and student teams to ensure brand consistency. This role involves evening and weekend work to support live varsity coverage and special events.
Qualifications:
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
- Excellent planning and organizational skills with attention to detail and deadlines.
- Strong storytelling abilities in visual and written formats.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, InDesign), DSLR/mirrorless cameras, and digital publishing tools.
- Solid understanding of social media strategy, platform-specific trends, and engagement best practices.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Excellent planning skills, understanding critical paths, priority setting, meeting timelines
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Strong professionalism, tact and diplomacy
- Strong Client service ethic and high expectation for quality
- Creative thinker
- Self-motivated
- Photography and video skills
- Ability to interpret analytics and apply insights to optimize content strategy.
- Familiarity with competitive marketing analysis, particularly in the context of university and varsity sport.
- Knowledge of campaign targeting, segmentation, and audience engagement tactics
- Experience with or interest in using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, image/video generation tools, predictive analytics) for marketing content creation, planning, and efficiency.
- Comfort exploring new technologies that support digital communication goals.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Education and Experience:
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
- A four-year degree or diploma in marketing, journalism, multimedia production, communications, or a related field
- Minimum 4 years in digital marketing, social media content creation, or multimedia storytelling.
- Hands-on experience with end-to-end video production in a sport or campus environment.
- Supervisory experience with students or junior creatives is strongly preferred
- Previous experience working in university athletics or a similar setting is an asset
