As a Project Engineer, Building Infrastructure you will have a primary focus on Calgary Parking Capital Lifecycle. You will be responsible for the planning and execution of engineering projects in the Facilities Business Unit including assets, design, procurement, contract administration and assistance in developing the project budget. You will provide input for creating and implementing the applicable service lines' Capital Program plan in conformance with the approved 4-year plan and budget. Primary duties include:

  • Develop and track project plans, budgets and schedules.
  • Procure consulting engineering and construction services to deliver work, coordinating with internal City business units.
  • Provide engineering advice when reviewing structural and building envelope design of lifecycle replacements and new assets.
  • Communicate with citizens, property owners and other external partners involved in project work.
  • Ensure projects within the program are aligned with program benefits and sequenced to optimize efficiencies and implement strategies to achieve program objectives.
  • Lead and coordinate the Facilities review of the lifecycle asset management plan.
  • Coordinate asset repairs to ensure engineering requirements are met.
  • Coordinate claims from third party damage submissions.
  • Address safety and security concerns in collaboration with Corporate Security.
  • Assist with responses to public requests and 3-1-1 inquiries.
  • Lead the prioritization and scheduling of component inspections.
  • Conduct and/or review condition assessments for building envelope and structural components.
  • Assist in providing engineering advice to ensure the City's technical requirements are met as one of the owners' representatives of new facilities, systems and assets.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related Engineering discipline.
  • You must have at least 4 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)complete with practicing statusOR licensureand practicing statusby the first day of workClick here for more details.
  • At least 5 years of experience with planning, design and project management of facility, structural and building envelope rehabilitation and/or construction projects.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is considered an asset.
  • Experience coordinating and consulting with internal and external interested parties, consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies and industrial product representatives.
  • Strong building science and structural engineering analysis and design skills to review, comment and challenge engineering designs, plans, studies and reports within their engineering discipline.
  • Good working knowledge of building remediation methodologies, products and construction practices.
  • Strong analytical skills with relevant technical knowledge and a solid understanding of engineering principles (cost-benefits, risk and operational effectiveness analyses).

**Working Conditions:**A combination of office and field work is required to complete project objectives; field work includes some time at active construction sites regarding personal protective equipment.

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
