About the role

This role is hybrid and requires you to be at our downtown Toronto (250 Yonge Street, Toronto) and/or Client office at a minimum 3 days per week - subject to change at any time.

CGI is seeking a Development Practice Lead with a proven track record of coaching and transforming development teams from traditional methodologies to modern, agile practices. This role involves strategic planning, mentoring, and guiding diverse development teams through the transition, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and ensuring adherence to industry best practices.

Your future duties and responsibilities

  • Strategy Development: Create and implement strategies to transition development teams from legacy/traditional methodologies to modern development practices.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Lead, mentor, and guide development teams throughout the transformation journey.
  • Change Management: Identify and address concerns and resistance to adopting modern practices.
  • Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous learning, improvement, experimentation, and innovation.
  • Education & Training: Educate development teams on industry best practices, tools, and technologies to enhance code quality, security, and reduce technical debt.
  • Skill Gap Analysis: Identify skill gaps within current teams and tailor training programs to address them.
  • Progress Monitoring: Monitor and quantify the progress of training programs.
  • Roadmap Development: Develop roadmaps and training programs to upskill software development teams in adopting the latest software standard practices.
  • Standards Adoption: Implement and enforce standards and frameworks as part of transforming software development practices.
  • Industry Practices: Advocate and practice industry-standard practices for the software development lifecycle and cloud adoption.
  • Performance Metrics: Provide leadership with quantifiable measures of success for software development practices in collaboration with DevSecOps teams.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role

  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of IT experience delivering projects using both legacy and modern development methodologies.

  • Methodologies: Deep knowledge of Agile and Scrum development methodologies and code delivery via established DevSecOps practices.

  • Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience with git-based version control systems, coded CI/CD pipelines, SAST tools (e.g., SonarQube), software composition analysis tools (e.g., GitHub Advanced Security), and public cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).

  • Leadership Skills: Strong mentoring, coaching, and leadership abilities to motivate development teams through transformation.

  • Communication Skills: Ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Development Practices: Expertise in various application development methodologies and practices (Agile and Waterfall).

  • Agile Experience: Practical experience with multiple cycles of Agile Software Development Life Cycle principles.

  • Coaching Expertise: Hands-on experience and coaching expertise with software practice standards of application development.

  • Standards Enforcement: Deep expertise in guiding and enforcing development practice standards across teams.

  • Agile Values: Ability to align Agile values to meet business goals.

  • Shift-Left Strategies: Experience developing strategies for development teams to adopt shift-left practices.

  • Collaboration: Demonstrated experience aligning with DevSecOps and platform engineering teams to enforce and guide development teams on practices and standards.

  • Programming Languages: Experience with various programming languages and development standard practices.

  • Skill Development: Ability to identify key gaps within software development teams and create road maps and coaching programs to develop skills.
