The challenges that await you
The City of Laval is bustling with activity and its territory is undergoing significant development. The Legal Affairs Department proudly handles all legal matters for the City. As a lawyer, you will represent the City before all common and administrative courts and will act, upon request, as legal advisor to the City’s services.
As part of this mandate, you will be called to act on criminal cases under Part 27 of the Criminal Code, as well as on penal, statutory, and regulatory matters, specifically, you will be required to:
- Review submitted requests by examining procedures and documents (i.e. investigation reports) related to criminal offenses as well as violations of municipal regulations and certain laws of the Quebec legislature;
- Meet with witnesses, victims, complainants, and judicial stakeholders to authorize, if applicable, prosecutions against offenders, complete submitted evidence, ensure witness summons, and advise peace officers and individuals acting as representatives of the City of Laval (i.e. inspectors);
- Argue before the Municipal Court and potentially before appellate jurisdictions.
The ideal profile for us
- Be a member in good standing of the Quebec Bar for at least six (6) years;
- Hold a bachelor's degree in law;
- Relevant experience as a lawyer, particularly in representation before courts and dispute resolution in criminal, penal, statutory, and regulatory matters;
- Possess excellent legal acumen;
- Be skilled in expressing and writing clearly, concisely, and precisely;
- Be dynamic and able to work under pressure;
- Be a team player.
