Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for casual position of Student Fitness Coordinator at the Sackville Sports Stadium, in the Recreation Programming division of Parks & Recreation.

Under the direction of the Client & Services Coordinator and the Fitness Centre Specialist, the Student Fitness Coordinator is primarily responsible for organizing the Summer FITeen program and acting as a Floor Tech ensuring the Fitness Centre is member ready in a welcoming, safe, clean, and organize environment. Also responsible for determining the safest and most effective program activities for members.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensuring the Fitness Centre is member ready in a welcoming, safe, clean, and organize environment by
- Providing friendly, quality customer service to both internal and external clients.
- Remaining up to date on all information regarding policies, procedures, and programs, including information communicated through email by other departments.
- Responding to member concerns. Resolves customer concerns or complaints within scope of responsibility. Channels concerns to appropriate person. Follows up on concerns.
- Assisting, encouraging, and educating clients on how to use the fitness equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
- Deliver Fitness Center and Facility Orientation sessions, including Summer FITeen orientations.
- Keeping current on trends relevant to fitness.
- Being aware at all times of the activity in the Fitness Centre and ensuring all policies and procedures are followed by members.
- Working as a team member ensuring the Fitness Centre is member ready (welcoming, safe, clean, organized environment).
- Ensuring Fitness Centre is tidy, clean, and safe. Complete all cleaning duties, check operation and mechanics of equipment, and report any damaged equipment or safety issues.
- Assist clients with booking Fitness Centre consultations appointments and place reminder calls regarding appointments as needed.
- Checking clients in using the Fitness Center computer system, ensuring they have an active membership.
- Dispensing items from First Aid Kit and reports low inventory.
- Completing incident, medical, and emergency forms as required.
- Communicating and participating in special events and promotions.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Education & Experience:
- Must be a current student, or registered to start school in September 2026, First Aid with CPR C / AED.
- Previous experience as a Floor Tech, Personal Trainer / Trainer is an asset.
- One (1) year of previous Customer Service experience.
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
- Strong customer service skills with knowledge of communications, public relations and customer service principles.
- Thorough knowledge of training techniques, motivation techniques and safety practices.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; organize and manage time effectively, work effectively in a team environment or independently
Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.
Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

WORK STATUS: Casual, part-time, June 15 – August 22
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 30 hours per week. Shifts could be weekday, weekends, early mornings, and evenings as needed.
SALARY: $17.75 per hour
WORK LOCATION: Sackville Sports Stadium, 409 Glendale Drive, Lower Sackville, NS.
