Key Responsibilities
The Journeyman Mechanic is responsible for servicing/repairing SOUTHLAND school buses in a safe, efficient, and effective manner. This position is not confined to shop activities as the Mechanic may be required to perform field work on down buses.
- Ongoing maintenance / repair of buses
- Diagnosing equipment problems
- CVIP Inspections
- Preventive Maintenance (PM) Inspections
- Respond to road call breakdowns
- Complete all documentation associated with equipment repairs
- Work with shop management to maintain schedules and priorities
- Follow SOUTHLAND procedures and guidelines
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment
Requirements
- Journeyperson Mechanic ticket (Heavy Duty or Automotive)
- 2 – 5 years related experience
- School bus and diesel repair experience considered an asset
- Engine repair experience desired
- Valid class 5 driver’s license (class 2 or 3 considered an asset)
- CVIP (Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program) License considered an asset
- Own hand tools
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- Ability to comprehend/operate diagnostic and manual measuring tools
- Analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Computer proficiency
- Willingness to mentor Apprentices
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks at once
Remuneration
- Commensurate with experience
- Bi-weekly pay period (every second Friday)
- Employee Benefits Plan (after 3-month probation)
- Group Registered Retirement Savings (RRSP) Plan (available after 12 months)
- Annual Tool and Boot Allowance (pro-rated from start date - available in the last quarter of the year, and each subsequent year)
