About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Principal Cyber Security Engineer to join our team in Chantilly, VA. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for supporting mission-critical cybersecurity operations by designing, deploying, and maintaining secure and resilient data collection and monitoring solutions. Your expertise will enable informed decision-making across enterprise environments by ensuring the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of security data. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex cybersecurity challenges, contribute to national security initiatives, and collaborate with a dynamic team of professionals dedicated to excellence in cybersecurity engineering.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with at least 10 years of cybersecurity experience. Candidates should have a strong background in Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms, particularly Splunk, along with knowledge of Linux systems administration, operating system security practices, TCP/IP networking, and network security concepts. Certification such as DoD Directive 8570.1 IAT Level II or higher is required or must be obtained within six months of hire. Candidates should also demonstrate familiarity with Certification and Accreditation (C&A) processes, DoD security policies, and technical security guidance for information systems. A demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex data collection issues and develop comprehensive documentation is essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities
Troubleshoot new and existing data collection issues to ensure accurate and reliable ingestion of security-relevant data. Diagnose and resolve system issues impacting stability, performance, or usability of cybersecurity tools and platforms. Deploy, manage, and maintain supported and unsupported Splunk Add-ons required for specific data sources, ensuring seamless integration and data fidelity. Develop and maintain detailed documentation, including Body of Evidence (BOE) artifacts, engineering documentation, change management records, system security plans, and accreditation materials, in compliance with organizational standards. Create comprehensive Splunk deployment documentation, detailing specifications, deployment strategies, and architectural considerations for production environments. Implement and enforce strict role-based access controls to safeguard sensitive data, ensuring access is granted on a validated need-to-know basis. Design and deploy Splunk forwarders utilizing centralized configuration management through the Splunk Deployment Server, supporting rapid and consistent deployments across environments. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance cybersecurity monitoring capabilities and ensure compliance with security policies and standards. Participate in security audits, vulnerability assessments, and incident response activities as needed.
