The AVP is responsible for the development and profitability of a commercial real estate loan portfolio valued at more than $1.5B of primarily construction and related debt financing for commercial real estate developers, investors and users.
Responsibilities
- Develop and ensure the implementation of marketing strategies and maintain a client solicitation and retention program.
- Meet annual volume targets established by the Bank.
- Review and recommend the loan applications of senior managers and account managers.
- Define the orientations of the business unit and ensure stakeholder buy-in.
- Manage and control business unit operations and ensure employee productivity.
- Manage his or her employees in compliance with current legislation and policies and programs, assess their performance and ensure they develop their potential, manage recruitment/dismissal decisions and employee salaries.
- Ensure profitability in proportion to risks and improve the overall risk in the portfolio.
- Set quality standards for the services offered to clients.
- Negotiate agreements with clients.
- Quickly diagnose distressed accounts and other problematic situations and take the necessary corrective actions.
- Act as an expert advisor to senior management; submit recommendations for strategic files.
- Handle his or her clients' complaints diligently.
- Maintain close relationships with partners and important clients.
- Represent the organization to clients and associations to promote the Bank's image in the community, in addition to developing and maintaining business relationships with current and potential clients and influential people.
- Lead various large-scale projects and assignments that may have a significant impact on business line profitability and efficiency.
- Track market trends and changes in legislation to ensure appropriate changes in existing practices and, if required, submit recommendations to senior Bank management.
- Anticipate the implications of new legislation, policies, programs, procedures, various projects, and evaluate them and comment on them, and make recommendations to the Bank's senior management.
- Perform all tasks of similar or general nature requested by his or her superior or required for the job.
Qualifications
Academic background
- University degree or higher, preferably in Finance, Business Administration, B. Commerce in Commercial Real Estate
Experience
- Minimum of six (6) years experience as an Account Manager in commercial real estate financing or equivalent with an established financial institution and at least 2 years working in a people management capacity.
Specific Skills
- Strong communication skills within a negotiating context to be able to conclude complex transactions
- Advanced writing skills in order to prepare clear and coherent loan applications
- Good knowledge of Windows, Outlook, Word and Excel softwares
- Skills required that may be evaluated via psychometric assessment
- Ability to establish relationships: Accurately predicts possibilities; is intellectually curious; is receptive to new ideas focused on solutions; is not afraid to go off the beaten track
- Analytical thinking: Seeks relevant information. Establishes links between situations and questions the underlying causes of problems
