Academic Management Systems, part of IT Services at SFU, partners with Faculties and Faculty Relations to deliver systems that support academic operations. We are agile, cross-functional teams of analysts, developers, and QA specialists who thrive on collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Our focus is building user-centered IT solutions that simplify processes, improve efficiency, and enhance the SFU experience for faculty and staff.

SFU is embarking on a three-year digital transformation through the Integrated Faculty Management System (IFMS) program. This initiative will modernize and unify workflows across faculty and administrative domains, supporting long-term improvements in academic administration and advancing the university’s mission.

About the Role

The Senior Application Developer analyzes, designs, modifies, installs and maintains application programs, integrated systems, or software solutions including databases to meet user and organizational information needs at department, faculty and/or institutional level. Develops large and multi-domain enterprise-level administrative systems consistent with Information Technology Services architectural principles and practices, and the overall goals of the University. Leads all design and development activities in the entire software development lifecycle within an Agile environment; facilitates and performs server infrastructure installation and configuration; monitors and ensures system security; performs system testing and prepares system documentation; Contributes to and oversees API and web application development, database design, integration activities, and related DevOps and CI/CD processes; and provides operational support for all systems within AMS Academic Management Systems (AMS). Mentors and advises developers within the team and across local IT units to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and consistent technical practices.

The ideal candidate is an experienced developer skilled in enterprise application development, system integration, and database architecture. They design and deliver scalable, high-performance solutions using React, Laravel, Node.js, and RESTful APIs, while ensuring data security and system reliability. As a senior team member, they provide technical leadership, and collaborate across teams to align solutions with business needs. They thrive in Agile environments, solving complex technical challenges and driving improvements in system performance and user experience.
