Purpose of your Position - Non Union

Classification Summary - Union

The City of Kelowna has an exciting opportunity for a 9 month term as an Equipment Operator II at the Regional Compost facility in Vernon. An Equipment Operator II operates and maintains mobile equipment according to proper competency standards, safety practices, and regulations. Performs manual work in all weather conditions, dust, odours etc. In charge of snow clearing, and general site maintenance.

Duties - Union

• Operates mobile equipment and trucks with various attachments (e.g. roadside mowers, road marking machines, truck-mounted sidewalk plow, tailgate mounted sanders and sand spreaders, asphalt rollers, turf sweepers, small tractors, etc.)

• Performs traffic & sign installation and repairs; performs paving maintenance and road construction work.

• Performs routine inspection, maintenance, lubrication and fuel ling of equipment.

• Uses various hand tools for routine maintenance and changing of attachments.

• Refers equipment for mechanical repair and services as required.

• Responds to routine public enquiries; maintains written records of work performed.

• Performs manual labour work.

Credentials - Union

• BC Drivers License – Class 3 with Air Ticket

• High school Diploma or equivalent

• Experience operating a skid steer (minimum of 200 hours)

• Experience running and maintaining small gas powered equipment (string trimmer and lawn mower)

• Experience maintaining, servicing, and performing minor repairs on heavy equipment such as loaders and screening plants and compost equipment such as air blowers and water pumps

Pay Rate

$34.83 per hour plus 14% in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays and benefits
