About the role

Part-Time Controller

Hybrid Financial is looking for a business-minded and driven Controller to lead their finance function with both hands on operational and analytical oversight, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial activities. Reporting to the CEO & Managing Director, the Controller is responsible for managing financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, payroll, and risk with the ability to roll up the sleeves and get the work done.

Responsibilities:

· Maintaining accurate books and records.

· Monthly reporting of interim financial statements

· Preparing annual budgets and budget to actual variance analysis on a monthly basis

· Monitoring and reporting cash flow, financial performance, and key performance indicators, identifying trends and areas for improvement

· Implementing and maintaining internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.

  • Oversee all government and CRA filings and remittances, including corporate taxes, sales taxes, payroll related remittances, annual filings.
  • Strong knowledge & understanding Canadian tax laws and reporting requirements.
  • Ability to perform financial modeling to create budgets, forecasts, and financial reports that guide management decisions. This involves building financial models and projections, analyzing data to identify trends and variances, and ensuring fiscal health through strategic financial planning and analysis.
  • Maintain internal financial policies, processes, and control frameworks to safeguard assets and ensure transparency.
  • Document standard operations procedures (SOPs) for the department and maintain up-to-date records.
  • Involvement in SR&ED federal tax credit submissions
  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities across finance operations.
  • Responsible for coaching and mentoring accounting team member
  • Act as a strategic partner and advisor to the Executive team, providing insight during regular check ins, supporting decisions and direction through updates, reports, forecasts, and analysis for the business and operations.

We are looking for someone with the following experience and attributes:

  • 7+ years of hands-on accounting experience
  • CPA designation, with experience reporting to Canadian GAAP – ASPE or IFRS.
  • Experience in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, index match, and lookups, financial modeling, and proficiency in financial systems, QuickBooks etc.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills are essential for effective communication across all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Highly organized with exceptional time management skills and meticulous attention to detail.
