Your Next Challenge
Reporting to the Manager, Tailings Water & Environment, you will be a part of the Tailings Water & Environment Team. You will be primarily responsible for bridging the gap between DLM’s environmental programs and our Partner Communities. You will be responsible for overseeing environmental management, regulatory compliance, sustainability initiatives, and environmental risk management across the Detour Lake Mine Site. You will manage, facilitate, and execute community engagement strategies, ensuring transparency, mutual understanding, and constructive dialogue regarding environmental initiatives, projects, and performance. The role ensures that environmental programs align with corporate objectives, legal requirements, industry best practices, and environmental stewardship commitments while supporting safe and sustainable business performance.
Support the Environment and Community Relations Department to develop and implement comprehensive community outreach plans, including town halls, public meetings, informational sessions, and digital communications, focusing on environmental projects (e.g., closure and reclamation, new infrastructure, permitting); Support the implementation of a robust environmental management system (EMS). Manage environmental risks associated with operational activities, projects, and site developments; Oversee environmental monitoring programs, reporting, audits, inspections, and regulatory submissions; Provide strategic environmental guidance to operational, engineering, and project teams; Build and maintain effective relationships with regulators, Indigenous communities, government agencies, consultants, and local stakeholders; Lead and mentor environmental professionals, consultants, and multidisciplinary teams; Serve as the primary, knowledgeable, and credible contact for community inquiries, concerns, and feedback related to the organization's environmental footprint and operation; Proactively identify potential areas of community concern or conflict early in the project lifecycle; Mediate and resolve community grievances, fostering a trusting and collaborative relationship between the organization and stakeholders; Maintain detailed records of community interactions, feedback, and engagement outcomes; Translate complex technical environmental information into accessible, clear, and culturally appropriate language for diverse audiences; Collaborate closely with internal Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) and project management teams to integrate community concerns and feedback into project planning and execution; Ensure all community engagement activities comply with relevant local, state, and federal environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
What You Need To Succeed
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental management or related field (master’s degree considered an asset); Minimum of 10 - 15 years of professional experience in environmental management, community relations, public affairs, or a related role, with a significant focus on community-facing environmental issues; Experience with Environmental Management Systems (EMS) such as Intelex, Isometrix etc.; Proven track record of successfully managing public perception and navigating complex or controversial environmental projects; Demonstrated experience in crisis communication and conflict resolution within a community context; Excellent Communication (verbal and written); Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication abilities; High degree of empathy, active listening and emotional intelligence; Solid technical understanding of key environmental concepts; Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously and travel as required.
Your Work Schedule
Schedule: 4/3, 5/2 schedule at our Detour Lake Mine; Accommodations and meals are provided on site at no cost to the employee. Agnico Eagle provides transportation to and from the mine site and will accommodate to cover other travelling expenses according to your location of residence in Canada.
