About the role

Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About The Role Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary full-Time Software Developer III - Drupal to join our dynamic External Customer Experience team.

The External Customer Experience team is responsible for developing, enhancing and supporting all external facing IT solutions and applications while creating solutions to and delivering exceptional external user experiences.

In this role, you will work with team members to engineer, design, and develop solutions for new software development projects and/or requests as well as provide technical expertise on creative and innovative solutions. You will utilize analytical skills to develop new features, as well as enhancing existing features and frameworks, and troubleshooting problems. Your area of responsibility will include, but are not limited to, requirements (use case) gathering/analysis, design and functional specification creation, software development including producing prototypes and bug fixes, system test case creation/execution, participating in software design/code reviews and providing design support, based upon Management goals and objectives, you will work with team members to achieve results that are sustainable and repeatable.

Formula for success

  • Leveraging your skills in stakeholder collaboration and requirements gathering, you will collaborate closely with team members, including peer IT groups and business partners, to assess and understand requirements, both functional and non-functional, for web application projects.
  • Applying your skills in solution design and project planning, you will determine practical solutions and devise comprehensive plans for software development activities, considering project objectives and constraints.
  • Drawing on your skills in application development and system support, you will perform software development tasks to meet the objectives of new system applications, as well as provide ongoing support and maintenance for existing Drupal systems.
  • Utilizing your skills in cross-functional teamwork and technical analysis, you will work on new features (projects or releases) and bug fixes with other members of the department, peer IT groups and the business in the assessment of requirements (client/IT). Determine possible solutions and plan software development activities.
  • Building on your skills in IT research and architecture, you will contribute to the development and research of various IT and department hardware and software standards, system architecture and industry developments.

Desired Education And Skills

  • Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably in Computer Science or Computer / Software Engineering.
  • A minimum of ten years of experience as a software developer.
  • Extensive experience in development of Drupal 7 & 8/9/10/11 websites.
  • Proven ability to build custom Drupal modules.
  • Ability to conduct business professionally and develop strong working relationships with other team members.
  • Proven ability to learn in a fast-paced, dynamic and challenging environment.
  • Exemplar problem analysis, planning and organizational skills.
  • Exemplar documentation skills (e.g. use cases, functional specifications, training and user guides).
  • Project management experience on large scale projects (scope, complexity, budget).
  • Strong leadership, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively deal with conflict.

What You Can Expect

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week.
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.
