About the role

About the opportunity

PRI is seeking an Intermediate Civil Engineer (P.Eng.) to join our Civil practice. This is a hands-on design and project-delivery role for a licensed civil engineer in the earlier-to-middle stage of their career: someone ready to take real ownership of design work and to grow into managing their own projects, with the support and mentorship of a strong technical team. You will work across a genuinely varied mix of civil projects, including land development and subdivisions, municipal infrastructure (water, sewer, and roads), grading and drainage, stormwater management, and site servicing, as well as supporting the firm's broader infrastructure work. The variety is one of the best things about the role: rather than doing the same narrow task repeatedly, you will build broad civil competence across project types, clients, and sectors. The position reports to the Civil Practice Lead and works alongside senior engineers, designers, technicians, and other disciplines. It is a role designed for growth: you will do substantive design work now, take on increasing project responsibility over time, and be supported toward becoming a senior project engineer.

What you'll do

Civil design and analysis Perform civil engineering design and analysis across land development, municipal, and infrastructure projects, including grading and drainage, site servicing, stormwater management, roads, and utilities. Develop design calculations, technical specifications, and engineering reports. Apply and interpret municipal, provincial, and industry design standards and codes. Work closely with designers and technologists to translate your designs into drawings and models, reviewing their work for accuracy. Apply sound engineering judgment and take responsibility for the technical quality of your work.

Project delivery

Deliver assigned design tasks and project components on scope, on schedule, and on budget. Take on project management responsibility for smaller projects, growing that responsibility over time with support from senior staff. Support senior engineers and project managers on larger and more complex projects. Coordinate with internal disciplines, including geotechnical, structural, hydrotechnical, environmental, and survey, on multidisciplinary projects. Support construction-phase engineering, including reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, and site reviews as needed.

Client, regulatory, and team contribution

Interact professionally with clients, municipalities, and approving authorities on assigned projects. Support permitting and approvals, preparing submissions to municipal and regulatory authorities. Contribute to proposals and cost estimates as your experience grows. Mentor and guide junior engineers, EITs, and technical staff, and contribute to a collaborative team culture. Fulfill your professional obligations as a P.Eng., including quality and safety responsibilities.

Who we're looking for

We are looking for a licensed civil engineer with solid design fundamentals, a genuine appetite for varied work, and the drive to grow into project leadership. You take ownership of your work, you communicate well, and you are ready to step up.

Required

Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia, or eligibility for registration in BC (for example, a P.Eng. in another province able to register with EGBC). Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Approximately 4–8 years of civil engineering experience in consulting, with a track record of hands-on design work. Design experience across one or more civil areas (land development, municipal servicing, grading and drainage, stormwater, roads, or utilities), and a willingness to work across all of them. Solid working knowledge of relevant municipal, provincial, and industry design standards and codes. Proficiency with civil design software and comfort working from and reviewing Civil 3D / CAD drawings. Strong technical, analytical, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to manage tasks and smaller projects to scope, schedule, and budget, and a readiness to grow into greater project responsibility. A safety-oriented attitude and a valid driver's licence, with willingness to travel to project sites as needed.

Preferred

Experience across several civil sub-areas, rather than a single narrow specialization. Experience with BC municipal servicing standards and processes (such as MMCD). Project management experience on small to mid-sized civil projects. Experience on multidisciplinary projects alongside other engineering and environmental disciplines. Experience working collaboratively with First Nations and municipalities. Interest in applying new tools and technologies, including AI-enabled approaches, to civil engineering work.
