Janitor– Full Time

St. Thomas, Ontario

Salary: $44,300 to $51,300

Position Description: As a Janitorial team member, you will be responsible for the cleaning and sanitation of buildings in St. Thomas. In collaboration with our interdisciplinary teams, you will work within programs supporting residents who are experiencing mental health concerns and/or substance use and who require supports to maintain housing stability. You will prioritize stewarding resources to ensure high standards of cleaning quality while maintaining strong working relationships with program staff and tenants alike.

Hours of Work: Full Time- 40 hours per week, primarily weekdays

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

  • Ensuring designated building areas are clean and stocked with supplies by performing tasks such as dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning ceiling vents and restrooms
  • Executing heavy cleaning tasks and special projects as assigned
  • Notifying supervisor/relevant team members of any observed deficiencies in the building or supplies
  • Keeping supply rooms stocked and well-maintained, making the supervisor aware of any requirements
  • Working cooperatively with other team members
  • Providing mentorship & supervision support to tenant employees, if applicable
  • Following all health and safety regulations
  • Being aware of and following all agency policies and procedures
  • Additional duties as assigned

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

  • Prior experience as a Janitor is preferred but not required
  • A basic understanding of and compassion for individuals who have experienced mental health concerns and/or substance use
  • A warm, sensitive, and caring approach
  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships and have a genuine interest in supporting people living with mental health concerns and/or substance use
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies, as well as familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets
  • Positive work ethic, integrity and excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with other staff members
  • Full “G” license and own vehicle
  • Ability to lift 40lbs
  • Focus to follow proper safety procedures when handling cleaning chemicals and equipment
  • Comfort with appropriate sharps disposal and training in biohazard clean-up are assets
  • Compliance to company policies and guidelines for cleanliness and sanitation
  • A team player who is committed to upholding and modeling the standards set out in the organization’s Mission Statement and other operating standards and policies
