About the role

School District No. 52 (Prince Rupert) is located within traditional Ts’msyen Territory on the beautiful north coast of B.C. and services the small communities of Hartley Bay and Port Edward in addition to the City of Prince Rupert. Currently we have one secondary school, one middle school, five elementary schools, one store-front site and one “on reserve” school (Hartley Bay, K-12). Our student population is approximately 2,000 students, 62% of which are aboriginal.

Our small community boasts an excellent recreation facility (ice arena, swimming pool and gymnasium), an 18-hole golf course, racquet centre, tennis court, museum and a 700-seat performing art centre.

Generic Qualifications (All Vacancies)

The following qualifications are generic and necessary to all teaching positions in School District #52 (Prince Rupert). Applicants must have:

a certificate of qualification issued under the Teachers Act a Bachelor of Education or equivalent; a thorough knowledge and understanding of local Indigenous culture, history and communities; willingness to integrate appropriate Indigenous content and resources into educational programs; excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrated strong classroom management skills; willingness to integrate appropriate technologies into educational programs; the demonstrated ability to work co-operatively with teaching and non-teaching staff and parents/guardians; be willing to work collaboratively on a team that is committed to the principles of a learner-focused education system; willingness to work collaboratively toward improving student achievement by actively supporting the strategies and structures in the School Improvement Plans, the District (Aboriginal Education) Partnership Agreement, and the District Framework for Enhancing Student Learning (formerly known as the Achievement Plan)

Prince Rupert Middle School

Continuing, part-time ( 0.6 f.t.e.) effective September 8th 2026. Initial assignment to French Immersion 6/7.

Necessary Qualifications Include

Bachelor of Education or the equivalent academic qualifications; Specialization in elementary/middle school instruction; Recent, successful elementary or middle school experience Teaching specialization in French Immersion education Demonstrated fluency in both English and French in both the receptive and expressive modes, oral and written; Willingness to be demonstrably supportive of immersion education; Recent and successful experience delivering educational programs in a French Immersion program;

Note: Candidates may be asked to complete an oral or written French language screening to determine levels of language proficiency.

School District 52 includes the communities of Port Edward, Metlakatla, and Hartley Bay (the Gitga'at First Nation), as well as Prince Rupert. Prince Rupert is a port city situated on Kaien Island, just north of the mouth of the Skeena River, which lies at the heart of the traditional territory of the Ts'msyen First Nation. This territory is bordered by the neighbouring nations of the Gitxsan, Nisga'a, Haida, Haisla, Wet'suwet'en, and Heiltsuk people. Prince Rupert was established in 1910 as the terminus of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway (now CN Rail). It is the transportation hub of BC's north coast through land, air, and water, and has a population of approximately 13,000. The city enjoys a mild oceanic climate and is located in a temperate rainforest. The Prince Rupert School District offers K-12 education programs in 9 schools: 5 elementary (K-5), 1 middle school (6-8), 1 secondary school (9-12), 1 alternate secondary school (9-12), and 1 village school (K-12).
