Position Summary The Regional Controller plays a key role in the organization’s finance and operational activities and is responsible for the financial information and controls for Central/Western Canada. The incumbent will work directly with the CFO and indirectly with Sales, Operations, and the Regional management teams. The Regional Controller administers and maintains accounting practices and procedures; coordinates the analysis of operational results; and various financial information to assist in making value-added business decisions. Involvement will include areas of production, systems, logistics, inventory, cost control, investments and administration.
Key Accountabilities
- Financial Leadership & Strategic Business Support - Provide strategic financial guidance to regional teams by supporting business planning, cost initiatives, and performance management.
- Financial Reporting, Budgeting & Forecasting - Oversee accurate financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting to ensure timely and reliable financial insights.
- Internal Controls & Process Improvements - Lead the development of internal controls and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance financial systems and operational efficiency.
Major Responsibilities
- Key member of finance leadership team and responsible for strategic finance initiatives as they relate to the Central/Western Region.
- Key liaison and financial advisor to the Central/Western Region sales and operations in establishing controls, budgets and performance metrics.
- Assess, design, and implement plant-level financial controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, and operational accountability.
- Establish standardized business processes and guidelines to drive efficiency and cost effectiveness across all Central/Western plants.
- Work alongside the senior management team in developing results-oriented business plans, cost saving initiatives and bid submissions to ensure the future growth and profitably of the Central/Western Region.
- Prepare annual budgets and forecasts in conjunction with the Central/Western Region.
- Manage monthly accounting procedures for the Central/Western Region to ensure financial activities are captured and reported in accordance with company requirements.
- Review and analyze monthly financial statements to ensure the timeliness and integrity of the Central/Western Region’s financial results.
- Prepare and communicate month end reporting package.
- Develop, implement and monitor control and process improvement initiatives within the Central/Western Region.
- Assist in completing year end requirements.
- Assist in financial system design and implementation.
- Assume responsibility for other tasks and projects as they occur.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field; or professional certification (CMA, GGA, or CA designation preferred)
- Minimum 5 years progressive accounting related experience in a management capacity
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proficiency in financial modelling and data analysis tools
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing costing principles, including BOMs and routings in SAP S4 Hana
- Proven ability to design, implement, and monitor plant financial controls and efficiency initiatives
- Experience acting as a business partner to Operations and Plant Management, driving financial insight into operational performance
- Previous leadership experience in a large, multi-location organization
- Advanced knowledge of accounting and control practices
- Excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills
- Strong financial acumen and analytical skills with the ability to add value to sales and operations
- Ability to develop, implement and interpret company policies and procedures
- Knowledge of budget, forecast and strategic planning process
- Action oriented with a “best practice” mindset, strong conscience and governance to the organization
- Able to work well under pressure, prioritize and meet deadlines
- Manufacturing experience an asset
