What You Will Do:

The role of the System Planning Engineer will be responsible for analyzing, modeling, and planning the electrical distribution network, including transformer stations, to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of electricity to customers. This role involves forecasting short- and long-term load growth, evaluating the capacity of existing infrastructure and transformer stations, performing connection impact assessments, and planning for integration of residential and industrial loads. The System Planning Engineer recommends system upgrades, incorporates new technologies such as distributed energy resources, to optimize system performance to meet both current and future demand. Successful execution of various projects requires building and leveraging crucial relationships with Information Technology, Field Operations and Engineering & Continuous Improvement teams. The System Planning Engineer will play a crucial role in the Grid Modernization department by helping us evolve GBE through innovation. The position will also contribute to a positive workplace culture by fostering collaboration, maintaining a positive attitude, supporting our customers, and contributing to a respectful and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Power System Planning and Engineering:

  • Conduct reliability analysis, load flow studies, and provide recommendations for long term sustainability and reliability of GrandBridge Energy distribution system.
  • Perform connection impact assessments on new or expanding customers.
  • Prepare comprehensive engineering reports on the results of the studies or assessments with the appropriate conclusions and recommendations.
  • Coordinate the IESO System Impact Assessment Application and Hydro One Customer Impact Assessment requests for large loads.
  • Assist in developing the distribution system investment plans/programs to provide capacity reinforcement, reliability improvement, and plans for asset refurbishment.
  • Represent GrandBridge Energy in IESO Regional Planning by providing input, advocating for our needs, communicating with internal stakeholders, and preparing load growth forecasts for GrandBridge Energy.

Project Management and Procurement:

  • Coordinate with internal resources and vendors for the flawless execution of projects while ensuring that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.
  • Assist with procurement and contract documentation for services related to the distribution system planning, SCADA and distribution system automation innovations, and transformer stations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Technical Support:

  • Support Grid Modernization by conducting gap assessments, technology evaluation, technical analysis, developing specification & requirements, and advanced technology implementations.
  • Solve challenging problems pertaining to grid modernization, technology application, equipment specification, or project/program implementations.

What You Will Bring:

  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligible to be licensed in the province of Ontario
  • 2-5 years of electrical utility experience is preferred.
  • Project Management certification or PMP designation, is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the following applications and engineering tools is considered an asset: Synergi Electric, MS Suite Applications and general understanding of Database Applications (i.e., SQL, Oracle, MS Access).
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Strong analytical abilities, problem solving and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Valid Class ‘G’ Ontario driver’s license with insurable driving record.
