Job Description
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District is located in south-central British Columbia, with dozens rural and urban communities spread across 44,300 square kilometres. The TNRD provides more than 120 local government services to approximately 144,000 people in 10 Electoral Areas, 11 member municipalities, and 25 First Nations.
The TNRD is headquartered in the City of Kamloops, the largest community within the regional district. The Thompson-Nicola region has a vast range of climates that experience true four-season weather, with plenty of year-round sunshine, little rain, and warm summers. Residents generally have short commutes, easy access to recreation and the outdoors, and a high quality of life. The TNRD acknowledges that we are located within the unceded, ancestral lands of the Nlaka’pumux, Secwépemc, St’at’imc, and Syilx Nations.
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) is looking for a knowledgeable and motivated individual to join our team as a Community Grant Writer. Reporting to the Finance Supervisor/Analyst, the Community Grant Writer plays a key role in supporting the Grants Coordinator. This position helps TNRD Electoral Area community groups to secure funding by:
- Researching and identifying grant opportunities
- Assisting with grant applications and compiling necessary documentation
- Liaising with funding providers and ensuring compliance with grant requirements
- Submitting progress reports and maintaining accurate records
- Building and fostering strong partnerships to enhance funding success
Job Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Diploma in a related discipline such as business administration, communications, or public relations, etc.
- Minimum of three years experience (preferably in local government) in a related position or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge funding application processes, reports and grants.

Knowledge of UBCM Canada Community Building processes and program.

Considerable knowledge of NGO Societies.

Knowledge of provincial and municipal government mapping standards.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to use tact, and diplomacy when dealing with internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to use analytical thinking and problem solving skills when planning, organizing and coordinating funding applications.

Excellent judgement with the ability to determine when to escalate situations for resolution.

Ability to organize work, set priorities to meet deadlines.
-
Ability to work effectively on own and within a team environment.

Ability to work on multiple projects or issues simultaneously.
This position falls under the provisions of the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 900. The placement of the Grant Writer is at Pay Grade 4, which is $2,191.59 to $2,544.48 biweekly. Since this is a temporary position, it will also include an additional 14% in lieu of benefits.
