Position****Summary:
The Learning Commons Assistant is an instructional partner who will co-teach and co-learn with students and staff to meet the school's curriculum objectives for students and support the goals outlined in the Board Strategic Plan, Board and School Improvement Plan.
The Learning Commons Assistant creates and maintains a learning environment for students and staff that supports student inquiry and research in partnership with the ITT and other staff in a Catholic school setting.
PositionDutiesand****Responsibilities:

Initiate purchase of all selected resources and maintain internal records of expenditures

Utilize and maintain the automated library database program to control circulation of resources, process inventory and create report documentation
-
Perform regularly scheduled supervision as assigned by the Principal
-
Support student inquiry and research
-
Look for opportunities to enhance literacy activities and abilities through books, technology and an inquiry stance
-
Create and maintain a learning commons environment for students and staff with a willingness and ability to innovate and collaborate
-
Support student inquiry and research
-
Provide opportunities for staff and students to work in small groups and independently using technology (for example the green screen and maker space)
-
Align resources to ministry initiatives
-
Work with individuals and small groups as assigned
-
In partnership with teachers organize and arrange learning materials
-
Assist/accompany teachers on field trips as required
-
General supervision duties as assigned by the Principal
-
Partner with staff to support academic learning in the classroom Integrate Catholic values and principles into the learning commons space and activities
Qualifications:
-
Grade 12 diploma or equivalent is required
-
Library Technician qualifications from a post-secondary institution or similar preferred
-
Employment experience related to working with children or youth
-
Ability to adapt as required to meet the needs of a diverse school community
-
Computer literacy is required
-
Proactive- able to seize the moment and provide learning opportunities in response to student need and interest

Comfortable using and learning with technology
-
Demonstrated ability for taking initiative and serving as a catalyst to implement change

Ability to organize and manage learning common resources- books, maker space resources, electronics

Able to collaborate well with both teachers and students
-
Self- directed, life-long learner Able to integrate Catholic values into the space and activities
