THERAPEUTIC RECREATIONIST (25-0000724)
Bargaining Unit: UNIFOR-HRM
Status: TEMPORARY Full Time
Department: BSO Services in LTC
Site: Hogarth Riverview Manor
Shifts: Days
Rate of Pay: $25.369 - $26.874 per hour
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Care, the Behavioural Support Lead Therapeutic Recreationist will work in collaboration with the Behavioural Support Lead Facilitator to build knowledgeable care teams, and the implementation of evidence-based practices, research knowledge and expertise related to Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) into clinical practice within all care floors of Hogarth Riverview Manor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
-
Degree/diploma in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies with Therapeutic Recreation course content (Therapeutic Recreation specialization)
-
Experience in Therapeutic Recreation programming as it relates to programs offered in long term care settings
Skills/Abilities:
-
Certification relevant to practice setting (ie Gerontology, Dementia), including training in Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) and U-First is an asset
-
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) is an asset
-
Demonstrated familiarity with the Long-Term Care Homes Act and Regulations is an asset
-
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as critical thinking and problem-solving abilities relative to the situation and scope of practice
-
Demonstrated commitment to client centered care
-
Ability to work as part of a team and also independently, with minimal supervision
-
Computer proficiency, including Word and Windows, email communication and electronic documentation
-
Demonstrated regular attendance at work
Assets:
-
Training in Gentle Persuasive Approach and/or Montessori is an asset
-
Professional member in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO)
-
Membership with the Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association or similar related associations
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
