Job Description
The School Cafeteria Worker is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals to students and staff in a safe, clean, and efficient manner. This position supports the overall health and wellness of students by ensuring meals meet established nutritional and health standards. Duties include food preparation, serving, cleaning, and maintaining sanitation and safety standards in the kitchen and cafeteria. The role follows the regular school schedule with work hours typically during the school days, all holidays , snow days and PD days will be days off.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook food according to daily menus and nutritional standards
- Set up serving areas and serve meals promptly and courteously
- Maintain portion control and follow food safety procedures
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas
- Wash dishes, trays, and other service items
- Assist with unloading deliveries and stocking supplies
- Monitor inventory and report shortages or issues to the supervisor
- Ensure the kitchen and cafeteria areas meet health and safety regulations
- Foster a respectful and welcoming atmosphere for students and staff
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Cafeteria Manager
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Experience in food service or kitchen work is an advantage
- Basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow directions
- Friendly and professional attitude with students and coworkers
- Must pass background checks and meet school district requirements
- Food handlers certificate
