What your day looks like as an Operations Manager:
The Operations Manager ensures the fluidity of maritime, rail, and trucking traffic while maximizing resource utilization and guaranteeing a safe work environment.
Management of Transport and Terminal Operations
- Manage terminal operations by maximizing the human and material resources available.
- Supervise the Superintendents-Planners team (evaluations, time management, timesheet approvals, and staff deployment).
- Work with the Planning team to follow up on work plans and identify improvement opportunities.
- Analyze and monitor performance indicators (KPIs) via dashboards to ensure targets are met.
- Manage non-standard operations (O.O.G./Stuffing/Destuffing) in compliance with established work plans.
Leadership and Labor Relations
- Direct Maritime Employers Association (MEA) employees (Longshoremen and Checkers) in collaboration with planners.
- Manage Chief Foremen (evaluations, attendance, timesheet approvals).
- Manage conflicts between various teams in collaboration with the management team.
- Participate in the labor relations process regarding infractions or incidents.
- Promote good business relations between employees, internal and external clients, and suppliers.
- Act as the primary contact for requests from other departments.
Health, Safety, and Continuous Improvement
- Responsible for monitoring health and safety rules for Termont and MEA employees.
- Lead accident investigations and participate in the application of corrective measures.
- Ensure compliance with OHS standards during the implementation of work plans.
- Participate in the development of work procedures to ensure they meet OHS requirements.
- Lead the equipment improvement committee and produce related reports.
To succeed as an Operations Manager, you should have:
-**Education:**DCS (DEC) in Logistics or any equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. -**Experience:**6 to 9 years of experience in managing unionized personnel. -**Industry Knowledge:**Solid experience in operations or logistics; experience in a container terminal and rail operations is a strong asset. -**Language Skills:**Bilingualism in French and English, both spoken and written. -**Soft Skills:**Strong leadership, excellent communication, and collaboration skills. -**Mindset:**Result-oriented with a critical mind and a focus on cost management. -**Analytical Ability:**Strong ability to analyze and interpret performance dashboards. -**Prioritization:**Solid skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. -**Problem Solving:**A solution-oriented approach focused on safety (OHS) and problem-solving.
