Quality Improvement Specialist
About the role
Job Description In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Manager or designate, the Quality Improvement Specialist provides leadership, support and coordination of quality improvement activities. Specifically, the scope of this work includes development of program specific quality improvement plans with identified quality indicators, the development and implementation of an Island Health Quality Improvement Plan and Accreditation Work Plan for the Program, and the development and ongoing maintenance of a Quality Improvement/Risk registry. The Quality Improvement Specialist provides training and support to implement quality improvements and build capacity of QI methodology within the organization.
Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And Experience A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master's Degree in a related health field and seven (7) years related experience including two (2) years' experience in quality improvement, development, implementation and evaluation in a healthcare setting.
Valid BC Driver's License.
Skills And Abilities
- Educational preparation in quality improvement, certificate in quality improvement or equivalent training in the use of quality improvement methods and tools.
- Ability to communicate, engage and motivate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, to listen actively and understand the perspective of others.
- Ability to effectively self-manage time as it relates to deadlines and workload.
- Ability to facilitate solution-focused approaches through innovation and creativity.
- Ability to work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to model organizational values and principles and maintain ethical standards.
- Ability to identify, prioritize, plan and complete work assignments.
- Ability to apply problem-solving and critical thinking to achieve optimal outcomes.
- Proficient in collecting and analyzing data.
- Proficient with online collaborative software tools.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
