Assistant Professor- Tenure Track Position- Faculty of Nursing
About the role
Acknowledging that University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is located on the unceded land of the Mi’kmaq Nation, of the Wabanaki Confederacy, in the traditional district of Epekwitk, the Faculty of Nursing at UPEI welcomes applications from exceptional candidates for the following Faculty position:
One (1) tenure-track faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level.
The ideal candidate (s) will be grounded in the principles of Primary Health Care and will contribute to teaching across the Faculty of Nursing, with responsibilities in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. The role includes active participation in the governance, decision‑making, and scholarly activities of the faculty through engagement in its standing committees. Candidates are expected to grow and sustain a robust and enduring program of research, including securing external funding and meaningfully involving undergraduate and graduate students in research initiatives.
This appointment is expected to start on July 1, 2026, and is subject to final budgetary approval.
About our Program:
The Faculty of Nursing at UPEI offers the only baccalaureate and graduate nursing program in the province. The Faculty of Nursing plays a key role in nursing education to support the local and national health system by developing nurse leaders grounded in the philosophy of Primary Health Care.
In addition to providing evidence-informed education, we strongly believe in providing opportunities for all faculty, staff, and students to participate in research and scholarship. The integrated nature of our curriculum offers opportunities to advance healthcare knowledge in all domains of scholarship. We also support investigating diverse topics such as health outcomes and improvements to healthcare services.
Nursing is a dynamic profession requiring critical and reflective thinking based on science and human perspectives. There is a need to reflect and embed within the curriculum and pedagogy new ways of thinking that support transformational changes within health systems, including the importance of interprofessional learning, collaboration, diversity, and inclusivity. In addition, we honour and appropriately respond to the Calls to Action of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, including fostering reflection related to reconciliation, decolonization, and Indigenization of the curriculum. Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a completed doctoral degree or have significant progress towards completion of a doctoral degree and at least one degree in nursing. Candidates will have successful experience teaching in an academic setting. An established record of scholarly research and publishing that demonstrates collaboration, community partnerships, and engagement of students (graduate and undergraduate) is required.
Candidates will have demonstrated leadership and experience promoting a respectful and inclusive work and learning environment for students, staff, Clinical Nursing Instructors, and Faculty. Candidates must be eligible for registration with the Prince Edward Island College of Nursing and Midwifery.
In the event that a successful candidate with a completed doctoral degree or significant progress towards completion of a doctoral degree is not found, candidates with a minimum of a nursing master’s degree in a relevant field with at least one degree in nursing may be considered for a term appointment. Demonstrated potential to develop a program of research, and conduct research and scholarly activities that contribute to the advancement of nursing education, nursing practice, nursing knowledge, and curriculum development is required.
The salary is as per the UPEI Faculty Association (Bargaining Unit #1) Collective Agreement. This appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.
