The Role
The Department of Education is seeking dedicated and knowledgeable Subject Matter Experts (SME) to design and develop curriculum for the Bachelor of Education program. Education courses will include topics such as educational technology, student engagement, classroom management, inclusion, and supporting K-12 students with complex learning needs.
The candidate will ensure that developed courses align with the program learning outcomes, current Teaching Quality Standards, and best practices in pedagogy. A Master’s degree in Education, a strong understanding of curriculum, and experience in K-12 education are required. The candidate will play a role in expanding teacher education at our institution. The successful candidate may work remotely and this is a part-time position.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop engaging, relevant, and academically rigorous curriculum that aligns with the program objectives.
- Collaborate with faculty members and Northwestern Polytechnic departments to ensure content compatibility and accuracy.
- Develop course content and source learning material that will provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge in educational theory, curriculum understanding, and teaching methodologies, with a focus on belonging and inclusive education within a northern context.
- Ensure curriculum and course learning objectives align with the Teaching Quality Standards for teacher certification in Alberta and institutional goals.

Job Requirements
The successful candidate will have a minimum of a Master of Education degree or related field. Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:

Highly qualified with proven ability to improve instruction and meet the needs of learners.

Experience in higher education or Teacher Education.

Self-driven with a strong ability to produce quality work and meet deadlines.

Strong organizational and project management skills.

Curriculum development and instructional design experience is preferred.

Creative and motivated with the ability to think innovatively.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience working collaboratively with teams, post-secondary institutions, and school division partners.
