Location: Hotel Dieu Hospital Site

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Ward Clerk provides services in a manner consistent with Kingston Health Sciences Centre’s (Hotel Dieu Hospital site) Mission, Vision and Values and that reflect the core values of Patient and Family Centred Care (dignity, respect, information sharing, participation, and collaboration). The Ward Clerk duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides clerical support for patient care nursing and professional services which contribute to the organizational efficiency of a patient care unit

  • Collaborates with nurses and other providers of patient care within the delivery system to optimize the seamless delivery of services

  • Maintains adequate supplies at the nursing unit desk

  • Answers the phone and receives the delivers messages accurately and in a timely fashion

  • Communicates effectively in a respectful manner

  • Multi-tasks efficiently in a busy, sometimes noisy, and demanding environment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Office Administration-Medical Diploma (2 year) or equivalent combination of education and/or experience

  • Recent and related experience in a clinical setting

  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions accurately, work under pressure and cope with frequent interruptions

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, courteously and tactfully with all types of people

  • Ability to work discreetly with confidential information

  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology

  • Proven ability to attend work regularly

  • Demonstrates computer skills: Microsoft office and e-mail/keyboarding skills

  • Proven ability to attend work regularly.

  • Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The applicant must be able to meet the physical demands of this position.
